Impact Factor of all journals decrease significantly
PJMS retains its No. 1 position among Pakistani
medical journals besides moving from Q3 to Q2
position which is a significant development
USA: Clarivate the well-known Global Journal Ranking from United States has released its Journal Citation Report for the Year 2024 after implementing significant changes. Now all the two hundred twenty nine Health Science and Social Science journals in their database have been combined to evaluate the journal’s performance which has resulted in decrease of Impact Factor of all the medical journals considerably. Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences however maintains its No. 1 position with current Impact Factor of 1.2 which has decreased from 2.2 from last year. However, in Quartile Ranking it has moved from Q3 to Q2 which is a significant development. Impact Factor of all the other medical journals published form Paksitan has been reduced to less than 1.0.
Among the journals covered by Clarivate, Pakistan Veterinary Journal from Pakistan has achieved Q1 ranking besides Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences which is in Q2 while all other journals are included in Q3 ranking. It must also be mentioned here that Clarivate has not included three Pakistani Journals in the Year 2024 list which includes Pakistan Journal of Botany, Pakistan Journal of Statistics and Pakistan Journal of Medical & Health Sciences. Other journals included in the list must be careful because there are chances that if they fail to improve, they may also be removed from the last in the days to come.
In order to maintain the standard and ensure quality of manuscripts accepted for publication, Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences has also revised its editorial policy. Since its author friendly policy has adversely affected its Impact Factor, henceforth only those manuscripts will be accepted for further processing which have some innovation and also has increased chances of further citations. However, this policy will not affect all those manuscripts which have already been accepted for further processing. We will no longer entertain routine research work.
Clarivate data has also highlighted the most cited papers from Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences published during the last five years (2020-2024). The authors include Dr. Mukhtar and colleagues “Advantages and Limitations of Online Learning during Covid-19”, Nazish Imran and colleagues “Mental Health considerations for children and adolescents in Covid
