Both Knee joint replacement at GTTH costs just 8.5 lac rupees-Prof.Amir Aziz

Spine surgery is performed the same night to get good results Hospital is equipped with a Modular OT Suite, Unit has six Professors, fourteen consultants and 24 Trainees Within a Year GTTH will become a paperless healthcare facility

LAHORE: Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital organized its Fund Raising Dinner at a local hotel on March 2nd 2024 which was attended by member of its Board of Governors, Trustees and a large number of donors and philanthropists who are extending financial assistance to this tertiary healthcare facility for the last many years. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Asif Iqbal Ghurki said that it started as a small Dispensary in 1993 and now it has emerged as a 650-Bed State of the Art hospital which is a blessing for the people of the area and people at large. We are grateful to Mohsin Bilal and Prof.Amer Aziz for their efforts and devotion to run this institution professionally. He also pointed out that even seventy-seven years after independence, no public hospital has been established in this area so far.

Prof. Amir Aziz Chairman of the Board of Trustees of GTTH in his presentation first offered prayer for the People of Palestine who are facing the Israeli forces bravely and also urged those present to pry to shake the conscience of the leaders of the Muslim World. He was very critical of their criminal silence on this issue while Palestinians are being killed daily. He was of the view that we need to change our thinking. The dispensary, he said, was inaugurated by late Mr. Abdul Sattar Edhi in 1993. Ghurki family supported this initiative with the support of Members of the Board to run this healthcare facility in this most under developed area. There is no public hospital in the area. No proper sewerage system. People come with injuries due to motorcycles and fall from trees. There are one hundred two villages in the area with a population of over fifteen lacs. This hospital now also gets patients from many countries of the world, he remarked.

Sharing details of the facilities available at the hospital Prof. Amir Aziz said that we have a modular Operation Theatre with ten OTs working round the clock. We have six professors, fourteen consultants and twenty-four trainees at a time. We have facilities for scoliosis, spine shunt and we are regularly doing endoscopic spine surgery. Both knee joint replacements at GTTH cost just eight lacs fifty thousand as against up to twenty and twenty-five lac rupees charged by other facilities. Shoulder replacement costs just five lacs fifty thousand rupees. We are regularly doing procedures like Dynamic Hip Screw, Foot and Ankle surgery, Russian Ilizarov surgery, foot ankle surgery, state of the art ankle fracture management. Spine surgery is performed the same night to get better results and we do not perform surgery if it is not indicated upholding professional ethics.

Limb replantation facilities are also available. We have state of the art physiotherapy and anesthesia department and pain control teams. We have the best central sterilized system, we provide artificial limbs at a very economical cost, CAD-CAM brace. We have trained six orthopedic surgeons from Gilgit Baltistan. So far we have trained about two hundred orthopedic surgeons who are working all over the country. We have the facility of Internaitonal faculty who come here regularly and operate and train our people. We have highly competent and well trained nursing and paramedical staff which are important members of the healthcare team. We made available the facility of Cyber Knife for treatment of tumors and cancer patients.

This is the second such facility after JPMC in Karachi. So far four hundred patients have been treated with Cyber Knife due to Sehat Sahulat Card. He hoped that Sehat Card will not be politicized and we will continue to get this facility. So far seventeen thousand patients have availed the facility of dialysis. We have facilities of cochlear implants, good dental department and laboratory tests are at least 25% less expensive as compared to other commercial laboratories in the city. During the Covid pandemic and lockdown we performed eleven thousand major surgeries. Pharma companies provide us drugs at 50% of the price and the profit earned is used for the treatment of poor patients.

The hospital pharmacy has sixty qualified pharmacists. We have excellent Intensive Care Unit and after one year, GTTH will become a paperless healthcare facility. The hospital is equipped with Health Information Management System, Telemedicine service was initiated in 2020, provide free Ambulance service. We have forty-five beds in the Emergency and accommodation for four hundred patient’s attendants. Gourme provides free food for one thousand patients daily. Our Cafeteria offers healthy delicious food and executive rooms are available for those patients who can afford to pay.

Arrangements are being made to have latest MRI with Artificial Intelligence, CT Scan has been upgraded. Nursing College has been established while future plans include establishment of a medical college and state of the art Cardiac Care Centre on which construction work is at present in progress. One thousand five hundred people are working at GTTH. Social Welfare of the employees is taken care of and they along with their families enjoy the facility of health insurance. An Angiography machine has been installed and soon we will start doing angiography and stenting, other interventional cardiac procedures, he remarked. To overcome the problem of expensive electricity 300 KV solar system is being installed at a cost of three crore rupees.

Moderator of the session urged the participants not of raise their standard of living if Allah Pak gives them more money but use it for the poor and love humanity. Members of the Board pay for their own treatment as well as of their family members, he added.
Mrs. Sameena Khalid Ghurki also briefly spoke on the occasion and thanked all the donors and philanthropists who continue to extend their valuable financial assistance to the hospital. She also thanked Prof.Amer Aziz and his other team members for their devotion and dedication in looking after the patients and efficient running of the hospital.
Later Mr. Naeem Ghurki moderated the session and announced donations received from those present which included businessmen besides hospital employees and even children.
