HYDERABAD: The Department of Neurosurgery Unit- II at Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro, organized a workshop on “Stereotactic Neurosurgery and Functional Disorders” at the IT Department in Jamshoro on February 12, 2025. The event brought together distinguished medical professionals from various renowned institutions across Sindh.
The scientific session featured multiple lectures focusing on the fundamental and clinical aspects of functional disorders and application, delivered by eminent experts which included Prof. Dr. Sattar Hashim and Dr. Aurangzeb Kalhoro. The session was followed by a hands-on workshop, providing participants with practical exposure to neurosurgical techniques.
Attended by neurosurgeons and postgraduate students, the workshop served as a platform for knowledge-sharing and research discussions on the latest advancements in neurosurgery. Critical topics such as brain tumors, brain biopsy, and Parkinson’s disease were covered, sparking insightful discussions among senior experts. These discussions offered invaluable perspectives to young doctors and medical students eager to enhance their understanding of neurosurgical practices.
The event underscored the importance of minimally invasive surgery and interdisciplinary collaboration in the treatment of functional disorders. Such initiatives are particularly crucial in regions like Sindh, where access to cutting-edge medical knowledge plays a vital role in improving healthcare outcomes.
Earlier Prof. Dr. Hamid, in his welcome address highlighted the progress and achievements of Neurosurgery Unit II at LUMHS, Hyderabad. This was followed by an address from Prof. Riaz Raja, President of the Pakistan Society of Neurosurgeons (PSN), who discussed the advancements in neurosurgery at the national level.
This was the third academic activity organized by Neurosurgery Unit-II for postgraduate and undergraduate students, offering valuable insights into various aspects of neurosurgery. The establishment of the unit represents a significant milestone in enhancing healthcare delivery in the region. Despite limited resources, LUMHS and its affiliated hospital have made remarkable progress in providing high-quality neurosurgical services to the people of Sindh and beyond. The initiative stands as a testament to the university’s commitment to medical excellence, addressing critical healthcare needs while fostering the professional development of its faculty and students.
