Shark Tank Cardiology by PharmEvo

LAHORE: Keeping up its traditions of taking unique initiatives to promote the research culture in Pakistan and encourage healthcare professionals providing them opportunities for their professional development, PharmEvo sponsored a special session “Shark Tank Cardiology” at the 28th annual conference of Pakistan Hypertension League held at Lahore recently. This is one of the academic initiatives by PharmEvo Research Forum in which seventy synopsis and abstracts were received from postgraduates from all over the country. Out of this ten Synopsis and thirty abstracts were short listed for presentation. This year the programme was divided into two categories. Research idea in the Synopsis competition and Abstract presentation competition. Six cash prizes were awarded to the presenters in both the categories. Last date for submissions was September 10th 2025.
The Panel of judges who evaluated the research ideas/synopsis on the second day of the conference included Prof. Naseer Samore from AFIC Rawalpindi, Prof. Fawad Farooq from NICVD Karachi and Prof. Farhan Tayyub from KIH Islamabad.

Presenters during the session devoted to Synopsis Writing sponsored by PharmEvo at PHL Conference photographed along with Chairpersons of the session and some other distinguished delegates to the conference.

Dr. Aamir Shahbaz from Sheikh Zayed Hospital Lahore won the first prize worth one lac fifty thousand rupees. His topic was “Ticagrelor vs High-Dose Clopidogrel in primary PCI for STEMI Multicenter RCT. The study was conducted at Shaikh Zayed Hospital Lahore, Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology and Punjab Institute of Cardiology. The PIC (TIC-PRIME Trial). Second prize worth rupees one lac was won by Dr. Deepa Ahuja from Sindh Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases Larkana. The topic was “Ultrasound-|Guided Cannulation Versus Palpation Method: A comparative study on Radial Artery Occlusion and Procedural outcome- ULTRA-RAD Trial. Dr. Amina Javaid from Faisal Masood Teaching Hospital Sargodha won the third prize worth (Rs. 75,000/-) Seventy-five thousand rupees. The topic was “AI-Echocardiography for subclinical LV Dysfunction in Hypertension”.

Judges for evaluation of the Abstract presentation included Prof. Saulat Siddiq from Lahore and Prof. Nazir Memon from Hyderabad. Dr. Sohaib Ashraf from Sheikh Zayed Hospital Lahore won the first prize worth seventy-five thousand. Dr. Laiba Mazhar from Kashmir Institute of Cardiology won the second prize worth Rs. Fifty thousand. The third Prize worth Rs. Twenty-Five thousand was shared by Dr. Sana Ghous from Sindh Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases Sukkur and Dr. Aamir Shhbaz from Shaikh Zayed Hospital Lahore. Some of the topics selected for the synopsis and abstracts were very good. However, presentation by some of the presenters left much to be desired. It reflects the poor quality of teaching and training. These young researchers and postgraduates need to be trained in how to prepare the slides and posters, how to convey the message in the last slide which should have the take home message. They also need to be trained how to make the presentation. They need to be taught all this at the training institutions by their seniors and supervisors before they are asked and allowed to make the presentation at a conference. As this not only reflects on their supervisors and trainers but also the institution with which they are affiliated.

Dr. Aamir Shahbaz, Dr. Deepa Ahuja & Dr. Amina Javaid winner of the First, Second and Third Prize during the Shark Tank Cardiology Synopsis Writing Competition held during the recent PHL conference being presented the
prizes by Prof. Qazi Abdul Saboor Convenor of the conference along with
other distinguished participants at the concluding session. The prizes
were sponsored by PharmEvo.

The cash prizes were presented in the concluding session of the conference. The chairpersons of the session, evaluators of the posters abstracts did ask the presenters some questions, offered some guidance but also encouraged them saying that making a presentation in itself is an achievement. They also thanked PharmEvo for this academic initiative. All the presenters of Synopsis had a group photograph with the chairpersons as well as others eminent guests who attended this Shark Tank Cardiology session.
