KARACHI: Prof. Abdus Samad an eminent interventional cardiologist and former General Secretary of Pakistan Cardiac Society, former President of Pakistan Aspirin Foundation visited the newly established offices of Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences located at Business Centre on Shahrah-e-Faisal in Karachi on August 17th 2024.

He was briefed about the working of the journal, initial screening of the manuscripts received for publication, its internal and external peer review system. The journal receives over four hundred manuscripts from over forty five countries every month and enjoys the highest Impact Factor among biomedical journals published from Pakistan. With the help of a power point presentation, he was also briefed about the contributions made by the journal in improving the standard of medical journalism in Pakistan.

Details of the Certificate Course in Medical Editing, Advance Certificate Course in Medical Editing leading to diploma in medical journalism which is run by Pakistan Association of Medical Editors at University of Health Sciences were also shared with him. JPMA and Journal of CPSP, it was pointed out are also involved in imparting internship training to the candidates of advance course who visit Karachi for four days in the second contact session. They spend a day in groups at the offices of all the above three journals where they are briefed about the working of all these three journals which all have a different business model. These trained human resource is playing a vital role in improving the standard of the medical journals with which they get affiliated.

Prof.Samad appreciated the efforts being made by Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences. Recording his impressions of his visit, he wrote, I was immensely impressed with the organized set up in the purpose built offices. He also commended the contributions of Chief Editor Pak J Med Sci to promote the discipline of medical journalism in Pakistan and wished him good health and prosperous future. Later he had a group photograph with the Editorial Team of Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences. Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid presented him copies of his two recent books i.e.” Scientific Writing: A Guide to the Art of medical writing and scientific publishing” and “Medical History; Written in Haste”.
