MULTAN: Pakistan Hypertension League, in Collaboration with the Pakistan Cardiac Society, the Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine, and Go Red for Women Pakistan, arranged a symposium at Nishtar Medical University, Multan, on Saturday, May 17th, 2025, on the occasion of World Hypertension Day.

Prof Kashif Ali Hashmi, in his introductory remarks gave an overview of Hypertension, World Hypertension Day, and the Pakistan Hypertension League. followed by Prof Zahra Nazish who spoke on Hypertension in women from the platform of Go Red for women Pakistan. It was followed by a presentation by Prof Fawad Faroq on Hypertension Pakistan Perspective Local Data and the Way Forward.
Prof Tariq Waseem Senior Vice President Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine discussed holistic approach to management of Hypertension. Dr Ikram Fareed, Associate Professor of cardiology, CPEIC Multan, made a presentation on Pharmacological Management of Hypertension while Dr. Alina Ajmal from the Cardiology Department of Nishtar Medical University presented original data of Nishtar Medical University, already published in the Journal of Population Therapeutics Canada, regarding the prevalence of Hypertension and Cardiovascular risk factors among university students. Prof. Ahsan Baig, Professor of Pads Cardiology, CPEIC Multan discussed Interventions in Hypertension followed by Preach data by Dr Jaffar bin Baqir.

Pakistan Hypertension League also inaugurated three new chapters from South Punjab. Bahawalpur Chapter with coordinator Dr Nauman Ali, DG khan Chapter with coordinator Dr Asif Zarif and Rahim Yar Khan Chapter coordinator Prof Abdul Majid. Prof Dr Kashif Ali Hashmi, President Pakistan Hypertension League, along with Prof Javaid Akram, Prof Khalida Soomro. Prof Fawad Faroq and Prof Rashad Qamar Rao, Principal Nishtar Medical College, presented Mementoes and Certificates to the respective Chapter coordinators.
Certificate distribution Ceremony of a 3-month comprehensive course on Management of Hypertension conducted by Pakistan Hypertension League, endorsed by International Society of Hypertension (ISH), jointly signed by the President of ISH and PHL among successful participants. Thirty-three candidates registered, 29 appeared in the exit exam, of which twenty-six were successful. The first three successful participants who received medals are Dr Sumbal Ateeq, Dr Iqra Karim, and Dr Rida Shaukat.
Earlier a condolence meeting was held for the departed souls of Prof Ejaz Vohra and Prof Kalimuddin Aziz, the two founder members of the Pakistan Hypertension League.
Health Awareness Walk and Yoga Session
According to another report Pakistan Hypertension League, in Collaboration with Pakistan Cardiac Society, held a Mega health awareness walk and a Yoga session to spread the message of a healthy lifestyle on World Hypertension Day at Qila Kohan Qaim Bagh at 5.00 am in the morning immediately after Fajr Prayer.
The walk was led by Prof Dr Kashif Ali Hashmi, President PHL, Dr Imran Javaid, Coordinator Pakistan Cardiac Society Multan Chapter, Dr Hamza Ghafoor, coordinator PHL Multan Chapter, and Dr Shehzad Khattak, along with many others who attended.
WHL Excellence Award for Prof. Kashif Hashmi
The World Hypertension League has recently announced the Excellence award for individuals and organizations working globally for the control of Hypertension on the Occasion of World Hypertension Day.
Pakistan Hypertension League had nominated Prof Dr Kashif Ali Hashmi, the President Pakistan Hypertension League, for the award. (PR)
