LAHORE: Candidates of Certificate in Medical Editing (CME Batch-6) and Certificate in Medial Journalism and Editing (CMJE Batch-2) who secured first, second and third position were presented cash prizes from Rs. Twenty to Thirty thousand in the inaugural session held on April 23rd 2025. The prizes which are named and dedicated to distinguished Medical Editors are sponsored by Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences with an objective to encourage participants and promote the discipline of Medical Journalism in Pakistan. These prizes were presented by Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore Vice Chancellor of University of Health Sciences who was the chief guest on this occasion.

In the CME Batch-6, Dr. Summia Khan earned the first position to get Prof. Sarwar J. Zuberi scholarship of Rs. Thirty thousand. Dr. Ali Mansoor who secured second position was presented Prof. Tahir Saeed Haroon scholarship of Rs. Twenty-five thousand while Dr. Qurat Ul Ain Naqvi who got third position was presented Dr. Maqbool H. Jafary Scholarship of Rs. Twenty thousand. Late Dr. Sarwar J. Zuberi was the chief editor of Journal of Pakistan Medical Association while late Prof. Tahir Saeed Haroon was President of PMJA later renamed as Pakistan Associator of Medical Editor who also served as Chief Editor of Journal of Pakistan Associator of Dermatologists. Late Dr. Maqbool H. Jafary was the founder Chief Editor of Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences.

From this year another special prize was announced for the candidate with all round best performance getting more than 70% marks and earning fourth position. This prize worth Rs. Thirty thousand is dedicated to Prof. Ahmad Bader a distinguished Editor who served as Editor of Journal of Ayub Medical College for many years and got it indexed in PubMed. Currently he is serving at a medical university in Saudi Arabia.

In the Certificate in Medical Journalism and Editing the first prize worth Rs. Thirty thousand was earned by Dr. Afifa Ehsan. This is dedicated to Prof. Javed Akram former Vice Chancellor of UHS in recognition of his efforts to implement the decision to start these CME Courses during his tenure as VC. Second Prize worth Rs. Twenty-Five thousand was earned by Prof. Muhammad Ajmal Chaudhry. This is dedicated to Prof. Maj. Gen. M. Aslam another former Vice Chancellor of UHS during whose tenure the initiative was taken to start these courses and lot of spade work was completed. The Third prize worth Rs. Twenty thousand was won by Dr. Syed Ali Raza. It is dedicated to Prof. Arshad Javed former Vice Chancellor of Khyber Medical University in recognition of his contributions to help PAME promote the discipline of medical journalism in Pakistan.
