LAHORE: CMH Lahore Medical College and Institute of Dentistry (CMH LMC & IOD) Organized a workshop on “Peer Review 3D View; Authors, Peer Reviewers and the Editors’ Perspective” on May 24, 2024. It was arranged by Dr. Fahat Ijaz, Dr. Wajida Perveen and the Editorial team of MedERA, the Journal of CMH LMC & IOD. Prof. Saira Afzal was the main speaker. The event was attended by eminent editors of journals of Medical Colleges in Lahore.

She presented an interesting perspective, as stake holders from all three of these ‘dimensions’ were among the audience. She started off with an interactive exercise, asking the audience to list 10 impact factor journals in Pakistan and 10 in the USA, in the field of medicine and then discussed what an impact factor means and how one can find out the impact factor of a journal. She reviewed different types of research articles and kept the audience engaged and interested. A group activity on re-writing titles of three article brought about a lively discussion about how to make article titles short, crisp and relevant. Many other aspects of research were also discussed. The number of citations that an author receives was discussed as evidence that the author is a good researcher.
This was followed by a lively panel discussion. Whether an Editor should accept good quality research from their own institution in their journal also figured during the discussion. On the whole it was a wonderful initiative by MedERA. (PR)
