KARACHI: Neurology Awareness and Research Foundation (NARF) has established a Community Welfare Clinic named Brain & Heart Clinic at Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi which was inaugurated on June 8, 2024 by Mr. Arshad Baig who is a patient of Parkinson disease. Purpose of this facility is to provide treatment to the needy patients suffering from heart and Brain diseases, Epilepsy, diabetes, stroke, Headache, Memory Impairment Disorders etc. which are very common and major cause of deaths.

Prof. Muhammad Wasay, President Neurology Awareness and Research Foundation speaking at the occasion said that about seventy percent deaths all over the world are due to Heart and Brain disease. Our focus should be on prevention of diseases for which screening of Blood Pressure, diabetes and cholesterol must be checked of population over the age of thirty years. Use of tobacco and Ghutka is also very common in our society and bout 20 to 22% people can be saved with strict measure for cessation of tobacco and Ghutka he added. We are planning to establish twenty to twenty five more such centers in different parts of the City to provide free treatment and in some cases very subsidized treatment. Tobacco cessation clinics and rehabilitation facilities will also be provided. These clinics will also be used as referral centers for the patients and computerized data will be available to be used for research purposes, Prof. Muhammad Wasay added.
Dr. Abdul Malik, General Secretary NARF in his welcome address stated that since NARF inception in 2007, with industry based support we have worked in three major areas by creating awareness of various diseases, education of doctors and general public, provided educational print material in different languages besides arranging around two thousand medical camps in far flung area where free treatment and medicines were provided. Our aim is to provide treatment to the needy patients besides awareness among the community about neurology and its related sub specialties like stroke, headache, movement disorders, muscular disorders and memory impairment disorders.
