Tribute to late Prof. M. A.Rauf
Thank you for the detailed report on the inaugural session of ICHPE. It was truly a memorable event and a remarkable tribute to our esteemed leader, the late Mr. MA Rauf. His vision of a university, providing a vibrant learning environment for thousands of students, both undergraduates and postgraduates, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful dreams that has become a reality.

Post 6th PAME Conference Session at UOL
The post-PAME conference seminar held at the University of Lahore was a remarkable success, thanks to the intellectual contributions of all the participants, many of whom hold leadership positions across various medical journals in the country. Reflecting on the journey of the past three years, it is incredible to see how what once seemed like an ambitious dream has now become a reality.
While moderating the session alongside the esteemed panelists, I fully realized the significant role played by Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid, in shaping our success stories. His vision and dedication, through the editing course offered by UHS (which continues to this day), equipped us with the skills and knowledge to establish journals for our institutions and achieve indexing milestones.
The consistent guidance of facilitators like Prof. Akhtar Sherin, Prof. Jamshed Akhtar, Dr. Fatema Jawad, and Dr. Masood Jawaid has been instrumental, but at the heart of it all stands Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid—our mentor of mentors. His tireless efforts, wisdom, and encouragement have inspired and shaped us in ways words cannot fully express. We owe him our deepest gratitude for making this incredible journey possible. Thank you, sir, for believing in us and guiding us every step of the way.

Pakistan’s spending on Medical Conferences
Off the Record column published in Pulse International of December 1st generated lot of discussion on the social media. Here are a few glimpses from the WordsAPP group.
Stop spending millions on Gala nights, Qawwali nights, tours and expensive gifts. Don’t make an academic conference a chance to mint money from both the pharmaceutical companies and the participants. Declare the income and expenses to the Executive body in a transparent manner.
Dr. Farooq Rathore

All conferences ought to be organized in the educational institutions and not in the hotels. This may help to build capacity and nurture research temper in the institutions besides spilling money.

Very important recommendation. Can cut down the expenses and improve the attendance and enhance the prestige of the institute.

Agreed 100%. The University of Faisalabad has been following this model for many years now, our leadership supports sustainability in all events. We have three major conferences yearly (STEAM, Dermal Sciences and Myopia) and all are within our institutional, extracurricular are never a part of the conference and are dealt separately.
However, if the main purpose is to meet and greet Gala nights are an efficient method. Conferences i think require a very specific audience and they need to be entertained in a specific manner. Networking areas may be reserved, more modes of scientific information transfer like gamified sessions/ points of view/short communications may be increased. The same money put to good use , it will take a while but this may boost engagement and attendance.

We should always organize such conferences in the institutions. Let there be stalls for food where people just pay and buy food. Entertainments should be done away with. Even the registration can be reduced. We will not have to run after the pharmaceuticals and as a return write their medicines.

Difficult to Bell the cat. One may ask how much percentage of audience are actively taking part in these seminars?

We have recently organized one of the well-attended medical conference in Falettis hotel Lahore. I can suggest we can make our conferences very economical by just cutting unnecessary things including gala nights, musical and dancing concerts, lavish food and unnecessarily high prices gifts.

Really impressive and historical pieces of Journalism. I feel we “healthcare professionals” are on path of self-destruction.

An excellent article, mirror image of the medical profession but unfortunately it is true in All professional organizations & institutions including both public & private sector up, in our rampantly corruption-rich Pakland.
