Publication of Papers by FCPS Part-II candidates
KARACHI: Administration of the College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan deserve to be commended for issuing yet another notification on July 22nd 2025 regarding publication of scientific papers by the postgraduates appearing in FCPS Part-II examination.
The notification signed by Prof. Irshad Waheed Secretary of CPSP issued on July 22nd 2025 states that “In partial modification of notification No. CPSP/Sec/2022/250 issued on June 2nd 2022 and No. F-1/Exam-24/CPS/3008-A issued on 30th August 2024; it is for the information of all FCPS Part-II trainees that one synopsis based published article is mandatory for the FCPS Part-2 theory exam. The article must be published in HEC-recognized W and X category journals. For Y category journals, only those that are also listed with PM&DC will be accepted. This is issued with the permission of the competent authority”.
This new modification has now cleared many misgivings, successfully blocked the unethical publication practices in which the predatory journals have been playing a major role attracting and trapping those who are interested in quick publication of their papers. There is a need to create awareness among postgraduates, young researchers and junior faculty members of medical institutions to be extremely careful while selecting a journal for their manuscript submission and publication and be careful about the predatory journals which have no peer review system and do not follow even publication ethics. In future they wont be able to get any credit of such papers in their future academic selections and promotions. Heene, instead of going for the short cut, plan well and do include the publication strategy of their research papers which could take couple of months in recognized standard peer reviewed biomedical journals.
