KARACHI: According to a notification issued by CPSP on August 30th 2024, candidates appearing in FCPS Part-II examination are required to publish one scientific paper based on their approved synopsis in place of dissertation The paper should be published in CPSP approved journals as specified in its earlier notification No. CPSP/SEC/2022/250 dated June 02, 2022. However, for overseas residents, the competent authority may allow dissertation under special circumstances.
It may be mentioned here that in another notification issued on December 18th 2024, CPSP had stated that prior approval of synopsis from REU is mandatory for scientific paper writing. The PGs must submit synopsis duly approved by their supervisor to the REU Dept six months before their scheduled IMM examination. It further stated that only original articles with prospective data will be acceptable. It had suggested publishing papers in any of the HEC recognized journals. It also laid down the criteria for use of AI tools i.e. less than 30% will be acceptable.
In yet another notification issued on July 22nd 2025 in response to my column published on July 15th, the CPSP has further clarified that papers to be published in HEC recognized journals should only be published in W and X category which will be accepted. It has made the situation now very clear.
