LAHORE: Department of Medicine, West Medical Ward, Mayo Hospital Lahore in collaboration with the faculty from various Lahore based institutions conducted a Clinical Excellence Mock Exam on Saturday 4th October, 2025 says a communication received from Prof. Imran Hasan Khan.

This event aimed to assess and enhance the clinical skills of 32 candidates, comprising postgraduate trainees at various levels, aiming to appear in FCPS-II Clinicals. This mock exam was designed to simulate real life clinical scenarios, allowing participants to demonstrate their competencies in a supportive environment.
It was conducted over three hours, during which candidates rotated through short and long cases. A panel of experienced examiners from different departments within Lahore evaluated the candidate’s performance, providing constructive feedback to augment their clinical acumen. The exam’s structure and format were well-received by participants, who appreciated the opportunity to engage with diverse cases and expert examiners.
A feedback session followed the exam, where candidates received detailed insights into their performance. The feedback highlighted areas of strength and suggested improvements. Key themes emerging from the candidate feedback, included:
- Movement and Interaction: Candidates appreciated the opportunity to interact with patients and examiners, feeling that this helped them demonstrate their clinical skills more effectively. However, they did not appreciate the extensive movements, from assembly in one place, exam at another and finally feedback session at third place.
- Case Quality: The quality of cases presented was praised for their relevance and complexity, providing a realistic assessment of candidate’s abilities.
- Examiner Expertise: Candidates commended the expertise and professionalism of the examiners, noting that their feedback was constructive and insightful.
- Participation Opportunities: Some candidates suggested that more participants should have been given the chance to perform rather than observe, to maximize learning opportunities.
- Logistical Improvements: Candidates recommended providing seating for all observers and allowing participants to examine patients post exam to reinforce learning.
The Clinical Excellence Mock Exam proved to be a valuable learning experience for all participants. The event not only assessed clinical competencies but also fostered a spirit of collaboration and continuous improvement among the organizers and participants. The Department of Medicine at West Medical Ward, Mayo Hospital Lahore, was commended for taking this initiative, which underscores the importance of clinical training in medical education.
Recommendations
Based on the feedback, the following recommendations were proposed for future events:
- Increase participation opportunities for candidates who were left as observers only.
- Provide seating arrangements for all observers.
- Consider allowing candidates to examine patients post exam for enhanced learning.
By implementing these recommendations, future mock exams can be even more effective in developing the clinical skills of medical professionals. Prof. Imran Hassan says the success of this event is attributed to the dedication of the faculty members, examiners, and support staff from West Medical Ward, Mayo Hospital Lahore, and the participating institutions.
