KARACHI: During their recent visit to Karachi to attend the PSIM’s 6th International Conference held from April 17th to 20th 2025, Prof. M. Akbar Chaudhry former Principal of Fatima Jinnah Medical College, currently Dean of Azra Naheed Medical College affiliated with Superior University visited the newly established state of the art offices of Pakistan Journal of Medial Sciences in Business Center on Main Shahrah-e-Faisal on April 19th 2025. He was accompanied by Prof. Talat Naheed, former Prof. of Medicine and former Principal of Rahbar Medical College Lahore.

They were briefed by Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid Chief Editor of Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences about the whole publication process starting from the submission on Open Journal System, initial screening, formatting, internal review, external review process, plagiarism check, selection of external reviewers, generation of pdf files and publication after proof reading by the authors. PJMS at present receives over four hundred manuscripts from over forty countries mostly from South East Asia and Asia Pacific and it practices Open Peer Review System.
The journal employs dedicated support staff which is assigned different roles and duties in the whole process. Publication of the journal is a team work and an endeavor is made to ensure quality at each and every step of publication. The journal follows a very transparent publication policy and the journal website has comprehensive information for the authors including processing publication charges, peer review process, plagiarism check besides aims and objective, Vision of the journal is clearly stated on the journal website.
Recording his impressions of the visit Prof. Akbar Chaudhry stated that he was delighted to visit the state-of-the-art purpose-built offices. He commended the contributions of the Journal and its Chief Editor Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid to promote the discipline of medical journalism, particularly professional capacity building program through Certificate in Medical Editing and Certificate in Medical Journalism and Editing at University of Health Sciences Lahore. UHs has so far trained over two hundred Editors and Editorial Board Members, Faculty Members through these courses. Diploma in Medical Journalism is the next step which will be followed by Master’s program in Medical Journalism.
Prof. M. Akbar Chaudhry it may be mentioned here was one of the important core committee members of these CME courses, played an active role in its planning, and also served as external examiner for the first two batches of CME.
Prof. Talat Naheed recording her impressions on the Visitors Book wrote that “She was highly impressed with the set up of Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences. She commended the dedication and devotion of the support staff as well and wished further progress for the Journal.”
