Orientation Workshop on Quality
Management System at NUMS

RAWALPINDI: The Quality Assurance Directorate conducted its first orientation workshop on ISO 9001:2015 “Quality Management System” for the Quality Coordinators duly nominated by all the directorates and management entities across NUMS on September 9, 2018. The purpose of this orientation was to give a complete overview of the ISO 9001:2015 and QMS mechanisms to the Quality representatives for proper trickle-down effect. After formal introduction of the 37 participants AM QA briefed them about the training sessions and shared ground rules to be followed during the workshop that comprised a pre and post test session and two sessions of 90 minutes each. In the introductory session, it was explained that different organizations around the globe adopt quality management systems standards to ensure their quality of services by complying with these standards and continually improve their processes and likewise committed employees of NUMS, are being developed to adopt Quality as their core and primary responsibility.

Mr. Danish Nadeem “Nurse Manager Research” NUMS being a certified lead Auditor for ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 9001:2015 (QMS standard) was the Resource Person for the aforesaid workshop. The session started with the pre-test regarding ISO standards. The purpose of this test was to check the current knowledge of the Quality Coordinators about ISO 9001:2018 standards. Previously, Quality Assurance directorate had shared ISO related documents like ISO 9001:2015 guidelines, brochure and implementation plan etc. with each directorate for the general information about ISO standards. A very detailed and interactive presentation was delivered by Danish Nadeem where he provided an insight regarding the origin of ISO its, background, structure and clauses of ISO 9001:2015 standards. The presentation was followed by a post test to evaluate the outcome of the workshop. The most enriching part of the workshop was the enthusiasm of the Resource Person and the participants who sat through with lot of zeal and interest. Director Event Management and QA/QEC were also present throughout the workshop, Director Quality Assurance/QEC shared her thoughts and the way forward for implementation and achievement of ISO certification in NUMS as part of VC NUMS vision and directives and assured support and facilitation to the all the directorates towards smooth implementation of the ISO standards. Provost QA/RD Dr. Mahmood Raza emphasized the importance of quality through capacity building and improving the process of the organization. He stressed on the development of sustainable mechanisms and documentation for the effective and smooth functioning of the secretariat.

Maj. Gen. (Retd) Muhammad Aslam who chaired the concluding session elaborated the benefits of complying with ISO standards and its ultimate impact on the organizational processes. He reiterated on the fact that the journey towards excellence has started and each member of NUMS is now responsible to work for achieving, maintaining and sustaining quality in this regard. He however advised all the quality representatives to play their role effectively and ensure smooth compliance of the standards without compromising at any stage for any reason. (PR)
