Seminar on World Asthma Day at DUHS

KARACHI:Ojha Institute of Chest Disease, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) organized a Public Awareness Seminar on World Asthma Day at OICD Karachi. World Asthma Day is celebrated throughout the world in the first week of May. This Seminar started with the welcome address by Dr. Mirza Saifullah Baig, Assistant Professor at OICD who briefed the participants about Asthma and its treatment. He said that if Asthma is not properly treated, it will lead to repeated hospitalization, multiple recurrence with same symptoms.

Dr. Sadaf talked about the factors which enhance the disease. It includes allergens, infection of bacteria, respiratory tract infection, weather changes, emotions, exercise, Genetics, pollution, low birth weight. Dr. Sadaf also stated that patients should continue proper medication. Inhalers are the best way to treat the Asthma. It is very safe because it helps in ensuring that proper dose of the drug reached into the lungs. She also talked how to use the inhalers correctly.

Dr. Sidra talked about prevalence of the disease worldwide and how serious it is. About 300 million people worldwide are suffering from Asthma. It is more common in developing countries like Pakistan. (PR)
