FJMC upgraded to
Medical University

LAHORE: At last the Government of Punjab has fulfilled its promise made numerous times to upgrade the Fatima Jinnah Medical College to a Medical University.  The Governor of Punjab has issued a notification to this effect after the Punjab Assembly approved the FJMU Bill 2015 on May 25, 2015. This is going to be the third medical university in the province of Punjab after UHS and KEMU.

Necessary arrangements are now under way as regards staffing of this university and completion of other formalities to ensure its smooth functioning and it may take few more days. It will also continue to admit three hundred undergraduate medical students.

Health RAB organizes Research
Assembly at JPMC

KARACHI: Health Research Advisory Board (Health RAB) organized a Research Assembly a poster presentation competition, at JPMC Karachi on June 17th 2015 with a special support from PharmEvo. It was very well attended. The competition attracted over75 posters from participants that included senior doctors from JPMC and medical students from JSMU. The posters were presented in print form as well as digitally through LCD screens.

Director JPMC, Prof. Tariq Rafi Vice Chancellor of JSMU, senior Executives of PharmEvo and
some of the participants. On extreme right Mr. Haroon Qasim Chief of PharmEvo
is presenting a mementoe to Prof. Anisuddin Bhatti Director JPMC.

The posters were evaluated by a panel of judges, which included Prof. Dr. Kamran Hameed, Dr. Shabeen Naz Masood assisted by Dr. Masood Jawed and Dr.Ashar Fawwad. The participants were awarded First, Second and Third positions in each of the 3 groups of Medicine & Allied, Surgery & Allied from JPMC and Medical students from JSMU. In addition to certificates, winners were also awarded cash prizes to appreciate & recognize their efforts.

Awareness programme
about Ramadan at JSMU

KARACHI: Jinnah Sindh Medical University organized a program “Istaqbql-e-Ramadan and Awareness Program” on June 17, 2015. Prof. S.M. Tariq Rafi, Vice Chancellor JSMU was the Chief Guest. Dr. M. Zaman Shaikh, Director Sir Syed Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology and Dr. Abul Basit, Director, Baqai Institute of Diabetology and Endocrinology talked about the effect of diabetes in type I and type II patients with diabetes during Ramadan fasting. Dr. Nighat Shah, Consultant Gynecologist and a faculty member at Jinnah Sindh Medical University spoke about the effect of fasting among pregnant women. Prof. Aasim Ahmed explained when the renal disease and dialysis patients can fast.

Earlier Dr. Kashif Shaikh, spoke about Islamic aspects of Roza and Ramadan. The presentations were followed by lively discussion.  Prof. S.M. Tariq Rafi also briefly spoke on this occasion and thanked all the speakers for their valuable presentations.  Prof. Nazeer Khan, Director of Research welcomed all the guests and participants.
