Multi-disciplinary Paediatric
Rehab Services at DUHS

KARACHI: Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah along with Minister of Health Dr. Sikandar Ali Mandhro formally inaugurated the Multi-disciplinary Paediatric Rehab Services Department at Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IPM&R) of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) last week.  Secretary Health Dr. Fazal Ullah Peacho and Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Saeed Quraishy, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Khawar Saeed Jamali, Director Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehab, Prof. Nabila Soomro were also present on this occasion.

Speaking on the occasion chief Minister Sindh said that the government  has   uniform policy to provide better healthcare facilities to urban and as well as rural areas of Sind. Sindh government has already started satellite clinics facilities to rural areas of province. We will provide more funds to provide best medical facilities and wish to support research work. Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Trauma Centre is one such example. Earlier Minister of Health Dr. Sikandar Ali Mahandro, Secretary Health Dr. Fazal Ullah Peacho, Vice-Chancellor Prof, Mohammad Saeed Quraishy, In-charge of Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation briefly addressed the participants. Prof. Nabila Soomro in her welcome address said that this service was designed to improve the abilities of children and young people following their diagnosis which affects their function, thus allowing them to lead an independent life at home, school and the community.

Prof. Irum Rizwan that this was the only autism unit in a teaching hospital in Pakistan .The specific goals for rehabilitation of each effected child are met by our team who design individual tailored rehabilitation. The services that IPM&R teams provides are individualized intervention programs, sensory integration programs, psychological assessment, speech therapy, special school and vocational program for children with special needs. About 80% of patients avail free of cost services.
