BMU approves MoU
with Maldives

KARACHI: Board of Governors of Baqai Medical University in its meeting held recently has approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the BMU and the Government of Maldives. Prof. Zahida Baqai Vice Chancellor of BMU accompanied by Director Planning and Development, Dr. Shoaib Baqai had a meeting with President of Maldives, Abdullah Mamoon Abdul Gayoom in Islamabad during his recent visit to Pakistan.

Prof. Zahida Baqai also highlighted significant steps the university has undertaken so far to promote CME/CDE related activities for health professionals and its students. She also briefed about modular teaching program for MBBS and BDS to be implemented from January 2016. Speaking about Baqai Foundation’s contributions, she said that it introduced the concept of community oriented and community based medical education in Pakistan by establishing country’s first private sector medical college in 1986. BMU Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fareeduddin Baqai was also present on this occasion.(PR)

 POB organizes
free eye camp

KARACHI:Prevention of Blindness (POB) Trust, a subsidiary of Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) organized an eye camp in which patients were facilitated with free of cost surgeries for prevention and control of blindness and visual impairment.

Peaking at the occasion, Dr. Misbah ul Aziz, Chairman PIMA, said, “There are about 1.6 million people infected with eye diseases in Pakistan. Prevention of Blindness Trust (POB) is working since July 2007 for this cause and we can save hundreds and thousands of people from permanent blindness, who cannot afford to pay for necessary treatment.” He also added, “This is the sixth camp by POB in the country. Construction work have also been started to build a highly equipped eye hospital in Karachi”. POB Trust is playing a pivotal role in holding free eye camps at national and international level. Around 200 patients including women were examined by the doctors at a day long eye camp in Karachi.(PR)
