KEMU starts Fellowship programme
in Emergency Medicine

LAHORE: King Edward Medical University is the first public sector university in the Province of Punjab where a five-year program has been started in Emergency Medicine. To start this initiative, an Emergency Medicine Focus Seminar was organized for the undergraduate students. Experts from United Kingdom and Australia shared their views regarding development of Emergency Medicine Department at KEMU and also conducted Hands on Training Course for Post Graduate Residents.

The Vice Chancellor, King Edward Medical University, Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal in his address mentioned about the necessity of Department of Emergency Medicine and the role of KEMU graduate doctors serving in other hospitals of the province. The availability of consultants/ Professors has been ensured for 24 hours in the Emergency Department of KEMU/ Mayo Hospital, Lahore. Dr. Emmad Qureshi, from Australia, said that Emergency Medicine Departments are also working under the specialist cover in United Kingdom, United States and Australian hospitals. He further said that efforts will be made to organize such training courses in future as well so that patients are provided treatment at per with international standards.

Dr. Faryal Waqar, who is working in Emergency Medicine Department (Sydney) said, there is dire need to establish the Department of Emergency Medicine in the Casualty Department of the hospitals in Pakistan. Dr. Nadia Maqbool from Emergency Medicine Department in Australia, said that she was pleased to contribute in the development of Emergency Medicine at Department KEMU/ Mayo Hospital, Lahore. Dr. Nasir Ali, from UK said that in UK Emergency Medicine is an independent department.
