delegation inspect BIPS

KARACHI: The Baqai Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (BIPS) was inspected by team of Pharmacy Council of Pakistan (PCP) for recognition. The team comprised of Federal Inspector of Drugs Dr. Najmus Saqib, Chief Inspector of Drugs Dr. Kifayatullah, Secretary PCP Tanwir Ahmed Siddiqui, Prof. Syed Ayub Ali Co-ordinator WHO, Khalid Saeed Bukhari, Dr. Syed Umer Jan, University of Baluchistan and Director, Drug Regulatory Authority Dr. Javed Iqbal.

The inspection team members were briefed by senior faculty members of BIPS, about facilities available and academic achievements. The Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. (R) Maj. Gen. M. Aslam in his welcome address emphasized the importance of Pharmacists role in healthcare sector and added that inspection of Pharmaceutical Institute helped in improving the teaching standards and development of infra structure of institutes. BIPS is fully aware that PCP team will find things matching with inspection parameters. Prof. Shaukat Khalid, Dean, BIPS in her brief address highlighted the performance and achievements of BIPS since last inspection of 2008. Associate Prof. M. Ali Sheraz, gave a presentation of the institute as per the questionnaire of the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan. The presentation contained adequate information relevant to the inspection. The members of the inspection team also visited the institute to see the facilities such as class rooms, laboratories, instruments, books, seminar library, etc. The members seemed to be satisfied with the teaching facilities. The members of the inspection team held a meeting with the Dean and HODs of the departments and then separately among themselves. An informal discussion with the Chancellor, Prof. F.U. Baqai and Vice Chancellor Prof. Zahida Baqai was held over a cup of tea which was followed by presentation of mementos to the members of the inspection team by the Vice Chancellor. (PR)

Physiology Quiz in Malaysia

MALAYSIA: The 12th Inter Medical School Physiology Quiz (IMSPQ) for Prof. A. Raman Challenge Trophy was held on 20 – 21 August at University of Malaya Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This international event is being organized by Professor Cheng Hwee Ming, department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, regularly for the last 12 years to promote Physiology.

recently participated in the Physiology Quiz organized by department of
Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Malaysia from
August 20-21st 2014. Also seen in the picture is Prof. Saadat Ali Khan.

Physiology is the back bone of medicine. Its importance is revealed from the fact that the International Nobel Prize for Medicine is titled as Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. A team comprising of three students, Zargam Nasir Khan & Tahleel Javed from 2nd Year and Anusha Pervaiz from 3rd Year MBBS under the supervision of Dr. Sadia Ahsin (Associate Prof Physiology) of Foundation University Medical College, Islamabad participated in this prestigious event. IMSPQ comprised of qualifying round where students had to go through a two hours written test based on multiple choice questions. Out of 90 teams participating from all over the world 40 teams were declared to qualify for the next round. It is a matter of pride that Foundation University Medical College students were nominated in first 10 qualifying teams. The final round comprised of oral questions where the team members performed well but could not achieve prominent position. The participation of students in this major event provided tremendous learning experience and delightful social interaction with medical students from different cultural backgrounds. At this time it is also hoped to develop collaboration between University of Malaya and Foundation University in fields of research, staff development and mutual student exchange programs through Memorandum of Understanding.
