Laptop Distribution
ceremony at UHS 

LAHORE: Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Health Advisor to the Chief Minister Punjab was the chief guest at the Laptop distribution ceremony held at University of Health Sciences recently. Speaking at the occasion he said that the government had decided to distribute laptops among talented students of the country purely on merit without any quota or political involvement and it was only to provide better and latest facilities for education to the deserving students.  We have been trying our best to provide all possible facilities to the students for better education and bright future of the young generation and country. He also urged the youth to think and act collectively.

UHS Vice Chancellor, Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Prof Muhammad Aslam in his speech said that it was great initiative of the government to give laptops to the students and it was duty of our youth to take advantages of the facilities provided by the government. He said that the youth was the real asset of the country and future of Pakistan lies in the hands of young generation as today’s youth would lead the country in future. He also urged the students to use the laptops as an effective tool to bring a positive change in society. UHS Registrar Dr. Asad Zaheer also spoke on the occasion. (PR)


Diabetes awareness
walk at BMU

KARACHI: Baqai Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology (BIDE) organized a Diabetes Awareness Walk” at Baqai Medical University recently. Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fareed-ud-din Baqai, BMU along with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zahida Baqai, jointly inaugurated the walk.

Speaking at the occasion Prof. Dr. Zahida Baqai, said that, Diabetes is sleeping killer; 50 years ago the day that diabetes journey began and it’s not over yet, we have to make some efforts and to minimize and control diabetes. Prof. Abdul Basit, Director BIDE, said that, unfortunately one corer Pakistani children are suffering from obesity which is a risk factor for Diabetes. The Awareness walk is not enough; we have do to more, we make promise to students and children of Pakistan to provide them basic healthy life style curriculum, healthy diet and the education. We should prepare syllabus for students to provide awareness about the healthy diet and healthy life style. I am glad to see that primary schools children participated in this walk which is really encouraging and make us proud that our mission “Eyes on Diabetes” was on the right track.(PR)


Interpretation
of ECG

KARACHI: The Department of Continuing Medical Education (CME) at Baqai Medical University organized lecture on “EKG or ECG Interpretation”recently.Prof. Muhammad Tahir gave brief summary on “Diagnosis”.  He presented different ECG Graph like Sinus Rhythm with PAC’s, Complete Heart Block, Accelerated Idioventricular, Ventricular Escape Rhythm, Brugada Syndrome etc of different patients of different ages and pointed out the diseases present. It also showed badly damaged heart rhythm activity and tells the scenario for recovery from these diseases. Recovery, he stated, was not an easy task; doctor should know what the best treatments are for different cases like electric shock, medicine doses etc. He also showed the normal ECG Graph and described the healthy heart's electrical activity. The lecture was attended by final year MBBS students, house officers & faculty members. (PR)
