Health has various facets including preventive health, promoted health, curative health, reconstructive health and rehabilitative health. Professor Ronald M. Harden from Dundee, UK in year 2000 highlighted the Integration Ladder as a tool of Curriculum Planning and Evaluation from Isolation to Trans-disciplinary namely Isolation. Awareness, Harmonization, Nesting, Temporal Co-ordination, Sharing, Correlation, Complementary, Multi-disciplinary, Inter-disciplinary and Trans-disciplinary.

Over the past decade, Engineering Sciences have incredibly contributed to advancement in Medicine by production of numerous devices for diagnostics and treatment. In the middle of twentieth century, many new scientific fields have emerged to interlink Engineering with Medicine for an innovative, interventional and interesting healthcare delivery to improve health for all. Thus, we need to develop an integration between Medical Sciences and Engineering Sciences in innumerous fields. The inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary areas of Health and Engineering Sciences include (but not limited to) Biophysics, Biomathematics, Biomedical Engineering, Public Health Engineering, Hospital Architecting, Intensive Care Unit Fabrication, Operation Theatres Designing, Environmental Health & Engineering, Biomaterial Sciences, Biomaterial Manufacturing, Genetic Medicine & Engineering, Interventional Radiology, Cyber/ Gamma Knife Surgery, Robotic Surgeries, Development of Artificial Skin, Neuroscience, Development of Cardiac Stents, Development of Urinary Stents, Development of Gut Stents, Development of Artificial Fingers/ Toes and Joints, Optometry, Cochlear Implants, Radiation Oncology, Stem Cell Laboratory, Computational Science, Bio-Instrumentation, Clinical Imaging, Dental Implants, Mobile Health, Telemedicine, Microscopy Analysis, Prosthetics, Bionics in Health, Regenerative Cellular Devices, Neural Tissues Development, Conduction Studies, Genes Designs, Genes Therapy, Reconstructive Devices, Clinical Engineering Biomechanics, Models for Neuro-rehabilitation, Nanotechnology and Nano-biotechnology. Therefore, combination of Medicine with Engineering may facilitate precision in diagnostics and Therapeutics to improve healthcare delivery for all.

Suggestion: Dichotomy in FSc curriculum between Pre Engineering and Pre Medical groups may be dissolved. In FSc, Essentials of Biology and Basics of Mathematics may be made compulsory for all students trimming the outdated and less necessary contents. There may be only two groups (Science and Humanities). All students of Science Group may be allowed to opt for admission in programs of Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Medicine or related Technologies. For that, Inter-Boards Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) Federal and Provincial Text Boards, Ministry of Education and the relevant authorities may be requested to heed to call of the time. This may act as a first noble step towards fostering linkage between Medicine and Engineering in our country to have a holistic approach.
