Baqai Medical University faculty pays rich tributes and 
Resolves to rename BIH as Moin Institute of Hematology

KARACHI: Prof. Moinuddin a well-known hematologist and an important faculty member of Baqai Medical University passed away last week. May God Almighty rest the departed soul in eternal peace. Ameen. He leaved behind a large number of friends, students, professional colleagues and family members, well-wishers to mourn his death. Late Prof. Moinuddin graduated from King Edward Medical College in early 60s and has been affiliated with Baqai Medical University for a very long time. He served in various important positions including Member Board of studies, Dean Faculty of Medicine and Principal of Baqai Medical College.

In order to pay homage to the departed soul Baqai Medical University organized a condolence meeting on May 9, 2017 which was very well attended. Also present on this occasion were Chancellor, Vice chancellor and Pro Vice Chancellor of Baqai Medical University Prof. Fariduddin Baqai, Prof.Mrs. Zahida Baqai and Prof. Maj. Gen. Mohammad Aslam. Speaking at the occasion Prof. Mrs. Zahida Baqai said that today we have lost an important pillar of the university. Prof. Moin, Prof. Zahida Baqai opined, worked with devotion and dedication to promote the aims and objectives of Baqai Foundation in the field of education and health. Not only that he also trained doctors, nurses and other health workers in Maldives to prevent Thalassemia for which he will always be remembered. Till his last day he was busy in fight against thalassemia, she added.

Late Prof. Moin, it may be mentioned here, was a renowned hematologist, kind hearted God fearing physician who always practiced ethical medicine. He founded the Institute of Hematology at Baqai Medical University and trained a large number of hematologists some of which also did Ph.D. in hematology.

Prof. Maj.Gen. Mohammad Aslam Pro VC BMU addressing the participants said that late Prof. Moinuddin was a very honest person, excellent physician who had his own identity and personality and lived a very simple life. Prof. Syed Fazal Hussain said that as a professional colleague and as a physician, he always found him a role model. Principal Baqai Medical College Prof. Iftikhar Ahmad Siddiqui said that passing away of Prof. Moinuddin was a great loss for the university and for himself as well. I as a student of Baqai Medical College had learnt a lot from him and he was proud of being a student of Prof. Moinuddin. He advised his students to follow late Prof. Moinuddin as a role model as it was difficult to find his replacement.

At the end of the meeting as a mark of recognition of his services to Baqai Medical University, Prof. Iftikhar presented a resolution to rename Baqai Institute of Hematology as Moin Institute of Hematology which was unanimously accepted.

According to another report late Prof. Moinuddin was a member of the Pakistani delegation sponsored by Government of Pakistan which visited Iraq for ten days during February 2001. This visit was organized by Export Promotion Bureau now renamed as Trade Development Authority of Pakistan in collaboration with Pharma Bureau. The prime objective of this visit was to update the Iraqi healthcare professionals in latest developments in medicine since they lacked it due to sanctions by the West. Another objective was to foster friendship between the healthcare professionals of both these countries and also look into the possibilities of Pakistani Drugs exports to Iraq apart from other commodities. Prof. Moinuddin like other members of the team had a very busy schedule during his stay in Iraq. He not only taught and trained Iraqi doctor’s latest developments in hematology but also guided them about the management of various blood disorders. He conducted clinic for three days besides interactive discussions in the Department of Hematology, Center for Blood Disorders in Baghdad. Prof. Mahmood Ali Malik former Principal of King Edward Medical College and Allama Iqbal Medical College who was also a member of this medical team recalls that late Prof. Moinuddin became very popular with his Iraqi colleagues because of his simplicity and excellent command on hematology and management of blood disorders. This was a memorable trip for the Pakistani medical delegation which also provided them an opportunity to visit various holy places in Iraq.
