 EMAME honours three distinguished Editors of
Biomedical Journals from the Region at EMMJ6

Those selected for this honour include Dr.Karim Vessal
from Iran, Dr. Maqbool H.Jafary from Pakistan and
Dr. Ahmad Said El Morsy from Egypt

SHIRAZ (IRAN):  Eastern Mediterranean Association of Medical Editors set a unique example of honouring distinguished editors of biomedical journals from the region at the just concluded EMMJ6 Medical Journals Conference held at Shiraz Iran from February 18-20th 2015. It was the brain child of Dr. Farrokh Habibzadeh Chief Editor of International Journal of Environment and Occupational Medicine, former President of World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) who was also the chairperson of scientific programme of the EMMJ6.

 

Distinguished Editors from the Region were honoured at the recently
held EMMJ6 Medical Journals conference. Picture taken on the occasion

Dehghani President ISC from Iran.

Those who were selected for this honour included Dr. Karim Vessal a distinguished Editor from Iran who was associated with Iranian Journal of Medical Sciences for a long time and at present is the Chief Editor of Iranian Journal of Radiology. He is also the mentor of Dr.Farrokh Habibzadeh. Second editor who was honoured was Dr. Maqbool H. Jafary from Pakistan who is Editor-in-Chief of Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences. He is former President of Pakistan Medical Journalists Association and one of the founder members of Pakistan Association of Medical Editors. He has to his credit a large number of publications besides being the author of numerous books. He has been a great source of strength to Pakistan Association of Medical Editors (PAME) and has served as Facilitator of a large number of Workshops, Seminars and symposia on Medical Writing and Peer Review. He is also founder member of EMAME.  Dr. Ahmad Said El Morsy from Egypt is Editor of Egyptian Journal of Histopathology who has also contributed a great deal towards promoting the specialty of medical journalism and has been regularly attending the EMAME conferences. He is also President-elect of EMAME. All these three distinguished Medical Editors were presented special mementoes by Jane Nicolson from WHO EMRO and Prof. Mohammad Javed Dehghani President of Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC). Dr. Karim Vessal and Ahmad Said El Morsy were present on this occasion and received the mementoes themselves while President PAME Dr.Fatema Jawad received the memento on behalf of Dr. Maqbool H.Jafary who could not attend the meeting due to health reasons

Speaking at this special session which was devoted to honour these distinguished medical editors President of EMAME Prof. Farhad Handjani said that we should not forget our mentors and role models. This is the first time that we have decided to honour distinguished Medical Editors from this region and he hoped that this tradition will continue at the future conferences as well. It was also for the first time that Young Investigators Award was instituted which was won by Mr. Parham Habibzadeh a medical student from Iran who is also son of Dr. Farrokh Habibzadeh. He spoke exceptionally well and his topic of presentation was To Cite or Not to Cite Web Sites: an Ongoing Dilemma. The best poster presentation Award was won by  Zakavi from Mashad, Iran. Selection for the Young Investigators Award as well as Best Poster Presentation was announced by Mohammad Reza Ghani from ISC Iran who also gave details of the criteria for this selection.
