LAHORE: A Seminar was held on the use of Artificial Intelligence in Medical Sciences, in collaboration with College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences, (affiliated with King Edward Medical University) and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) recently.

The Chief Guest of the Seminar was the Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal, while Guest of Honor was Prof. Asad Aslam Khan and Guest Speaker Dr. Hassan Mohy Uddin Director of Clinical and Transitional Imaging Lab, LUMS, Lahore.

Addressing to the participants, Vice Chancellor Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal said that the use of modern machines in the field of medicine helps a lot in diagnosis and treatment of the patients. Artificial intelligence and modern technology are being used for the last two decades. Artificial intelligence means the use machines for knowledge, education research and health services. The establishment of Department of Telemedicine at King Edward Medical University, he stated, is a big example of positive use of artificial intelligence. Up till now, more than 13,000 patients have been benefited from this Technology. The Department of Telemedicine, headed by Prof. Bilquis Shabbir, is not only providing Tele Services across the country but many other countries of world. The importance of big data is increasing with the passage of time. In near future, KEMU will make full use of Artificial Intelligence by establishing Modern Skill Lab and Robotic Center at its New Campus Muridke. He said that Prof. Asad Aslam Khan’s participation in such academic activities reflects that he has maintained his lien with KEMU even after his retirement. 

Prof. Asad Aslam said that Artificial intelligence is a vital need of the hour. The College of Ophthalmology is providing excellent diagnostic facilities. Principal College of Ophthalmology & Allied Vision Sciences Prof. Sohail Sarwar said that with the help of Artificial Intelligence, the treatment of the patients will be improved. Surgical Procedures are being carried out in a modern way with the help of artificial intelligence. Guest Speaker Dr. Hassan Mohy Uddin highlighted the benefits of use of Artificial Intelligence in Radiology, Medical Imaging Technology and gave lecture to the students. (PR)
