Prof. Maj. Gen. Muhammad Aslam

RAWALPINDI: Maj. Gen. Professor Muhammad Aslam whose contract as Pro Vice Chancellor of NUMS expired recently was recognized and presented a memento by Prof. Prof. Imran Majeed VC NUMS in appreciation of his contributions for the university at a Farewell Reception held a June 4, 2020.

Prof. Muhammad Aslam, it may be recalled graduated from Nishter Medical College Multan and later did M. Phil. (Pak) and PhD from (London). He is a devoted Professional who joined National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), Rawalpindi as Pro Vice-Chancellor on May 04, 2017. During his professional career, he has served in various capacities as a medical professional who committed his life to the welfare of humanity in general and excellence in medical science in particular.

As Pro Vice Chancellor Professor. Muhammad Aslam assisted the VC in all academic and strategic matters related to the university. His diverse portfolio included setting the University’s strategic academic direction, development of planning for the University, formulation of statutes, rules and regulations along with monitoring and implementation of University’s SOPs across the board and development of strategies for curricular and co-curricular activities. He was looking after the financial budgeting of the Institution at a macro level besides being engaged in selection of new appointments for faculty, NUMS Institute of Advanced Studies and Research and Contract Review Board/ Service Renewal Boards. He supervised centralized admission for MBBS and BDS programs of NUMS constituent and affiliated institutions.

In addition to this, he enhanced University’s networking with other academic institutions not only within Pakistan but also internationally. He facilitated the coordination and monitoring of academia with all the Constituent Colleges and Affiliated Institutions of the University. Designing and implementing Online Education System of NUMS as per guidelines of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in the face of COVID-19 pandemic is also one of his major contributions. He played a pivotal role in ensuring quality governance in academia and management of day to day matters of the University.

With over four decades of active teaching and research experience in Physiology at under and post- graduate levels, Professor. Muhammad Aslam held various key positions including Vice Chancellor, University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore, Vice Chancellor, Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, Islamabad, Principal, Shifa College of Medicine, Islamabad, Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, National University of Science & Technology (NUST), Islamabad and Principal, Army Medical College, (AMC) Rawalpindi amongst others. In recognition of his services, he was awarded Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) on 23rd March, 2004.
