Prof. Yasmin Rashid said that dental hygiene is very important, oral cavity is the route of many infections. We in Pakistan have a very bad habit of having poor dental health. We must have our own data and know what the disease pattern is and then plan indigenous solutions to prevent these diseases. We had done research which showed that iatrogenic fistula was more prevalent and obstructed labour was not the main cause of fistula as commonly believed. That gave us clue to improve the delivery services and ensure it was performed by qualified competent well trained persons. She also disclosed that before getting admission to medical college, she had spent two years at the Dental College. We need to properly train the dental hygienists and we need to focus on evidence based policies. She also announced that the under construction building of Dental College at Lahore will be completed within a year. She welcomed the participation of a large number of international speakers in the conference which she opined will serve as the Good will ambassadors of Pakistan. Hands on Workshops are very useful to train people. She also suggested that young dental surgeons, students should be provided an opportunity to participate through Posters in the conference which will encourage them.

Prof. Yasmin Rashid also disclosed that at present we have sixteen gynecologists trained in Fetal Medicine. Our biggest problem in Pakistan remains the poor documentation and record keeping which is essential for publications. We need to have a dental registry and also ensure dental examination of all the school going children. She urged all those present to use intelligence to become good citizens of Pakistan.
