FMHCM&D holds Condolence Meeting
for late Prof. Tariq Nishtar

LAHORE: Fatima Memorial College of Medicine and Dentistry organized a reference/condolence meeting recently for late Prof. Tariq Nishtar who was one of the founder members of this institution. It was very well attended by eminent physicians, faculty members and friends of late Prof. Tariq Nishtar.

Prof. Kh. Saadiq Hussain Chairman Board of Management of Fatima Memorial  Hospital speaking on this occasion talked about the personality of late Prof. Tariq Nishtar and paid him rich tributes.  Prof. Rukhsana Rahman Dean School of Health Sciences at Fatima Memorial System also spoke about the different aspects and personality of late Prof. Tariq Nishtar. Mrs.  Shahima Rehman Chairperson Executive Committee Fatima Memorial System commended the contributions of late Prof. Tariq Nishtar for starting educational activities in health sciences at this institution. The meeting was also addressed by two students of Fatima Memorial College of Medicine and Dentistry who talked about Prof. Tariq Ishtar’s association with this institution in the initial days. Other who spoke on this occasion included his family member’s i.e.  Dr. Salman Nishtar his son, Saira Nishtar and Dr. Tahira Nishter his daughters. Fateha was also offered for the departed soul.

It may be mentioned here late Prof. Tariq Nishtar was the son of late freedom fighter and noted poet Sardar Abdul Rab Nishtar. He started his professional career as Assistant Professor of Medicine in Khyber Medical College in 1966 and was promoted as Professor in 1971. He also served as Secretary Department of Health, Social Welfare and population planning division in provincial government. He retired in 1995.

He started helping Fatima Memorial Hospital in 1999 when he helped get it recognition from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and he used to be present at each PM&DC inspection. He was also responsible for making appointment of the first Principal of Fatima Memorial College of Medicine and Dentistry Prof. Shaukat Raza Khan who was an eminent paediatrician and had also served as Principal of King Edward Medical College, Lahore. FMHCM&D will always remember his sincere services and contribution which has gone a long way in strengthening and development of this institution.(PR)
