KARACHI: Use of disposable items in our health care system can reduce incidence of spreading Hepatitis and other deadly disease. Hospital waste should also be properly disposed off to eliminate the chances of its re-use. This was stated by Dr. Farzana Memon, Professor of Surgery at Dow International Medical College and Dow University Hospital, Karachi while performing Otsuka Lucky draw held at DIMC, on 29th January 2019.

She further stated that our focus should be on prevention, diagnosis, provision of clean water and hygiene besides equal health care facilities for our people. Proper sterilization of instruments must be monitored by seniors. Same salaries structure for healthcare providers should be implemented across the country. Pricking of I.V Infusion bottle is a very common practice and it is a major cause of hepatitis spread in Pakistan. It could only be controlled by educating the people involved in anesthetic preparation, nursing staff, paramedics and the OT technicians besides doctors. Education and making them aware of the dangers of pricking intravenous bottles will help to control hepatitis and other viral diseases.
