about Fluid & Electrolytes - Dr. Asif Qureshi

KARACHI: Fluid & Electrolytes is a delicate subject and it is important to educate the healthcare professionals about its clear understanding. GPs who are the first to receive patients suffering from Diarrhea, vomiting, minor trauma and other diseases in particular should be conversant with their use. This was stated by Dr. Asif Qureshi, Professor and Head Department of Surgery at Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry/Darul Sehat Hospital Karachi while performing Otsuka lucky draw held at Otsuka Head Office here on 30th January 2017.

Dr. Asif Qureshi further stated that Quality of IV fluids is of great importance and there is no doubt that Otsuka IV solutions are of good quality. These Fluid & Electrolytes concepts need to be conveyed to the healthcare professionals repeatedly for better understanding. Presentations for this concept should be practical and easy to understand and should be tailored according to the need of specific audience. Education should be started from gross root level. The material that should be included in first year syllabus is taught to final year students. Fluid therapy in burns patients is very difficult task. The Problems based scenario should be discussed with house officers. He advised Otsuka management to take further measures for dissemination of Fluid & Electrolyte concept among various medical disciplines which will be a Sadqia Jaria and will also help to achieve their sales targets. Selling a product he stated is very easy but selling in ethical way is very difficult but is rewarding. Dr. Asif Qureshi urged the healthcare providers to write prescription clearly and in capital letters to avoid wrong medication due to look alike and sound alike preparations.
