ISLAMABAD: PharmEvo sponsored the 4th Cardiology Research Awards during the recently concluded CARDIOCON organized by Pakistan Cardiac Society at Islamabad. It attracted many participants who sent their poster entries for evaluation. It is an initiative of the Health Research Advisory Board (HRAB) which provides a platform to Pakistan healthcare professionals to present their research work at the national forum. Cardiology Research Award is a “Medical Research Poster Competition” with an objective to encourage and foster research ecosystem in Pakistan.

Doctors from sixteen leading cardiology institutes from Pakistan were engaged, this year and the organizers received 89 submissions out of which 20 candidates presented their research posters in a competition held at 49th annual conference of Pakistan Cardiac Society on 23rd November 2019. The panel of experts who evaluated the posters included President Pakistan Cardiac Society Prof. Dr. Feroz Memon, Convener Major. General Sohail Aziz, Prof Abdul Basit, Prof. Hafeezullah, Prof. Shahryar Sheikh and Dr. Zakiuddin Ahmed· An exclusive research arena was established which was formally inaugurated by Prof. Abdul Basit, Major General Sohail Aziz along with national and international delegates.

Dr. Huma Zartash from Doctors Hospital Lahore earned the First Prize of Rs. Two lacs. The title of her poster was” Prolonged ICU stay in post CABG CKD patients and post-operative Quality of Life (QOL) at 6 months”. Dr. Syed Khubaib Majid from Tabba Heart Institute Karachi earned the second prize of Rs. One lac. Title of his presentation was “Mortality of Early versus Late Coronary artery bypass grafting in patients presenting with Acute Coronary Syndrome”. The third prize of Rs. 75,000/- was shared by Dr. Aleena Khan from SHIFA Int. Islamabad title “Expression Analysis of miRNA-143 and its Target Genes in Obese Population of Pakistan” and Dr. Hunaina Shahab from AKUH for her presentation “Uncontrolled post-clinic blood pressure readings signify nocturnal non-dipping pattern”.
