HYDERABAD: Keeping up its past traditions of excellent team work, organizers of the CARDIOCON 2017 had made excellent arrangements for the meeting held here from November 24-26th 2017. It attracted a large number of delegates from all over the country while the scientific programme was quite informative and interesting. Prof. Feroz Memon, Prof. of Cardiology at Isra Medical University was the Chairman of the organizing committee and other members included Dr. Fazal Ur Rehman Memon, Dr. Nandlal Rathi, and Dr. Fakhr-ud-Din Sheikh besides Dr. Faraz Memon.

The idea of honouring the distinguished cardiologists by inviting Prof. Shahryar Sheikh an eminent cardiologist of Pakistan who is also former President of World Heart Federation and former Chief Executive of Punjab Institute of cardiology to be the Chief Guest in the inaugural session where Guest of Honour was Prof. Nadeem Qamar Chief Executive of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases Karachi, deserve to be commended and appreciated. One hopes other professional specialty organizations will also follow such traditions.

The conference started with a Public Awareness Programme on November 24th which was organized at Sindh Museum Hyderabad. Prof. M. Hafizullah was the Chief Guest on this occasion.  At Banquet Prof Azhar Masood A. Faruqui was the Chief Guest and Prof. Hamid Shafqat was Guest of Honour. Prof. Bikha Ram, Vice Chancellor Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences was the Chief Guest and Prof. M.  Ishaq and Prof. Naeem Aslam were the Guests of Honour in the concluding session.

The scientific programme on November 25th 2017 started with a Breakfast Session which was devoted to Medical Uses of Aspirin.  During the conference, there were about 20 Parallel scientific sessions and state of art lectures were also part of scientific program. Workshops on basics of Cardiology, including Hypertension, CPR awareness, Electrocardiography and Echocardiography was very well attended.

For the first time in Pakistan the ACC FIT (American College of Cardiology Fellows in Training) Jeopardy competition involving fellows for a healthy competition was arranged. Six teams from LUMS, AKU, ISRA University, Tabba Heart Institute, LRH/KTH and NICVD participated in this competition. AKU team won the competition.  Prof. Khawar Kazmi conducted the ACC FIT Jeopardy competition and announced that Winner team will participate in the ACC FIT competition in Orlando, USA. ACC webinar session was addressed by Prof. Borja Ibanez from Spain who highlighted the new 2017 STEMI guidelines. PCS-ACC Joint Webinar was addressed by Dr. Vinod Thourani and Dr. Christie Ballanntyne from USA.

In order to promote research culture and provide an opportunity to the Cardiologist to present their research work a Poster Presentations & Cardiology Research Award sponsored by PharmEvo and Pakistan Cardiac Society were also part of the conference. Junior Doctors from major institutions of Pakistan participated in this competition. Audiovisual arrangements were excellent while time management was also exceptional with proper monitoring. All the presentations were linked with the timer. Gala Dinner at Qasim Banquet was very well attended by the conference participants and their families. Artists from different groups entertained the participants. Entertainment programme was sponsored by M/s OBS Pharma. Didactic performance in the inaugural session was also sponsored by M/s OBS Pharma.
