HYDERABAD: Dr. Salman M. Ghazni from Tabba Heart Institute, Karachi won the First Prize worth Rupees Two Hundred Thousand at the Second Cardiology Research Awards poster competition instituted by Health RAB an initiative by PharmEvo Pharmaceuticals during the 47th Annual Conference of Pakistan Cardiac Society held here from November 24-26th 2017. The topic of his poster was “Incidence of obstructive Coronary Artery Disease in patients without known coronary disease undergoing coronary angiography for evaluation of Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction at a Tertiary Cardiac Care Center in Pakistan”.  The prize was worth Rupees two hundred thousand.

during the CARDIOCON 2017 held at Hyderabad recently.

Dr. Veena Kumari from NICVD earned the second and Dr. Imran Khan from Ayub Medical College Abbottabad won the third prize worth Rupees one hundred thousand and Rupees seventy five thousand respectively. Dr. Veena Kumari’s poster was on “Safety and outcome of Balloon Dilation of Sub Aortic Stenosis due to membrane” while Dr. Imran’s poster was on “Cardiac Troponin testing in emergency department: A study of indication, clinical context and impact on treatment”.  The organizers also presented Research Enthusiast Prizes worth Rupees Twenty Five thousand each and the winners included Dr. Saba Hussain from NICVD, Dr. Bella Khan from NICVD and Dr.  Rakeha Naeem from Allied Hospital Faisalabad.

These Research Awards have been instituted by Health Research Advisory Board (Health RAB) an entity established by PharmEvo Pharmaceuticals a leading national pharmaceutical company known for its ethical pharmaceutical practices. PharmEvo has a very strong Academic portfolio and is busy in promoting research culture in Pakistan by helping, sponsoring such research awards in various disciplines of medicine. About forty cardiac departments and research institutions were involved in this poster competition. A total of thirty five entries were received out of which twenty were shortlisted by Health RAB.

The finalists presented their research posters in the competition. A panel of judges which evaluated them included Prof. M. Hafizullah Dean Faculty of Cardiology at CPSP, Prof. Sadiq Memon, Prof. Naeem Aslam President Pakistan Cardiac Society and Dr. Zakiuddin Ahmad Secretary of Health RAB. An exclusive Research Arena was arranged for this poster competition during the conference. On a suggestion by the panel of judges Health RAB added a new category of “Research enthusiast” to encourage the young researchers who will be offered a consolation prize of Rs. 25,000/- each.
