Smart Libraries across Pakistan

LAHORE: PharmEvo (Pvt) Limited and the Pakistan Library Association have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish smart libraries across Pakistan, and jointly support and promote reading culture in the community at large. The MOU commits the two institutions to establish comprehensive library service throughout Pakistan, arranging technical advice & assistance to library authorities, promote research in library science & improve the professional standing of library workers.

The scope of the activity encompasses setting up of 50 smart libraries across Pakistan jointly by PharmEvo & PLA (Pakistan Library Association) in collaboration with the concerned Institutes, like Medical Colleges and Hospitals. In its first phase PharmEvo will develop & provide smart libraries with its 24 literary publications, literary books like Kulliat-e-Iqbal, Dewan-e-Ghalib & medical books as well. In the second phase it will provide access to PLA site for almost 45,000 Medical related books, Journals & Articles.

Speaking at the MOU signing ceremony, Syed Jamshed Ahmed the Chief Operating Officer of PharmEvo said that this initiative has brought us a step closer to our dream of a healthier society. “To end intellectual poverty and boost a reading culture, our society needs such projects badly. The objective of this project is to foster reading habit in society and add value by establishing these Libraries in different Clinics & Medical Institutions.“We look forward to strengthening our partnership with the Pakistan Library Association so that people across Pakistan can benefit from this service, he remarked.

Mr. Haroon Qassim Managing Director PharmEvo, in his speech highlighted the vision of PharmEvo on the subject & said “As reading habit is abating rapidly in the society, Pharmevo feels a pressing need to play its part in reviving this valuable practice."This arrangement with The Pakistan Library Association will help us in strengthening our effort to shape our cultural landscape, he added.

Pakistan Library Association chief in his speech lauded the role of Pharmevo & said: ‘PharmEvo effort is commendable in sharing and spreading knowledge across the society as their CSR initiative & the signing of today’s memorandum of understanding is a demonstration of our joint commitment towards building a healthier society. “Pakistan Library Association is the representative National Body of the Librarians in Pakistan & it is working for the promotion of library activities. PLA is responsible to look after the interest of the professional librarians and to work for the development and improvement of libraries both in formal and informal sectors of education and research, he further added.

Prof. Bilal Zakaria Chief Executive of Punjab Institute of Cardiology addressing the gathering commended the initiative of PharmEvo and opined that such activities are necessary to build healthy societies. Prof. Irshad Hussain from King Edward Medical University thanked PharmEvo for taking this initiative which will go a long way in reviving reading habits and thus help in building a healthy society.
