UHS hosts the Conference
on Dental Research

LAHORE: Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Health, Khawaja Salman Rafique, has said that concepts of oral healthcare education and prevention of diseases are being neglected in the present system of dental education and there should be a paradigm shift towards research oriented and clinical based scientific techniques. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a 3-day international conference on dental research, here at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) on September 04. Khawaja Salman said that there was a major deficiency of qualified faculty in our dental colleges. He said that there was a dire need of revitalizing the current curriculum designs, education styles and technical facilities to keep ourselves abreast with the modern world.

UHS VC, Maj Gen (R) Prof Muhammad Aslam said that efforts were being made to overcome to shortage of faculty in medical and dental colleges. He urged that the proceedings of the conference should be communicated to the policy-makers. The President of Pak Association for Dental Research Dr Imran Rahbar and Executive Director Dr Abdul Samad Khan also addressed the audience.

The conference, which was organized in collaboration with the Pak Association of Dental Research, saw key speakers from Canada, United Kingdom, United States, New Zealand, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.             There were more than 150 oral and poster presentations. There were almost 90 national speakers who gathered from all over Pakistan to talk about different research areas of dentistry such as Behavioral and Epidemiologic Health Services, Clinical Dental Research, Craniofacial Biology, Cancer Research, Dental Materials, Education Research, Implantology Research,  Microbiology/Immunology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Biology and Regenerative Medicine,  Oral Medicine and Pathology, Orthodontics, Periodontal Research, Pharmacology and Therapeutics and Prosthodontic Research.

The conference also hosted clinical session in collaboration with other major national organizations including Pakistan Dental Association, Pakistan Association of Orthodontists, Pakistan Prothodontists Association, Pakistan Association of Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery, Pakistan, Association of Restorative Dentistry, Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Biomedical Materials, COMSATS IIT, and Society of Dental Materials Pakistan.(PR)
