Over 200 Family Physicians attend
CFMP Certificate Course in Diabetes

KARACHI: College of Family Medicine Pakistan organized a certificate Distribution ceremony at the IBA City Campus on 2nd Oct. 2016. The event was well attended by prominent academia, course participants and members of the College. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Dr. Abdul Samad Shera. Prof. Zaman Shaikh and Prof. Riaz Qureshi were the Guests of honor and graced the occasion with their presence.

Prof. Zaman Shaikh the Guest of Honour as well as the course director, speaking on the occasion stressed upon the need of similar certificate courses for family physicians in future, and mentioned the forthcoming courses which are being organized. His unending and unconditional support to the College was highly commended by the Secretary General and the Vice Chair of the College. “Fighting Diabetes” a six month certificate course was attended by 250 doctors in campus as well as online from all over the country. All three top positions were secured by online candidates. The 1st position by Dr. Dr. Mudassir Iqbal, 2nd Position by Dr. Muhammad Zafar Arif, and 3rd position was secured by Dr. Muhammad Laeeq Akmal. Certificates and logo pins were given to all successful candidates. Candidates from Multan, Thatta, and Sujawal and Mirpur Batoro came to attend the occasion. Certificates were also distributed to the MRCGP Revision course attendees.

College of Family Medicine Pakistan also  formally launched its research cell activities.  The College shall be training and supporting its members all over the country to conduct ethical research. “The College of Family Medicine Pakistan realizes that there is a dearth of data at the primary care level”, stated Dr. Shehla Naseem. “There is no one better than the family physicians to lead research in primary care. Accurate research and data collection would eventually lead to improvements in clinical practice, across the country,” she said. The research cell activities comprise of an IRB (Institutional Review Board) and a research training component. The College would be  running training courses for the doctors. The members of the Institutional Review Board are highly qualified professionals having research certification were formally introduced on the occasion. An Institutional Review Board (IRB) is an independent committee established to protect the rights and welfare of human research participants. Any ethical research must be reviewed and approved by an IRB.  CFMP- IRB is being chaired by Prof. Riaz Qureshi. The IRB members have expertise in a variety of areas including clinical research, family medicine, internal medicine, public health, molecular biology, pharmacology and social work.

Dr. Abdul Ghaffor Shoro elaborated on how they started the online training programs from scratch. The Role of Danish Shoro a young IT student was highly appreciated in initiating these programs,

Dr. Altaf Hussain Khatri, the treasurer & Financial Director of the college introduced the elected board of directors. Dr Mohammad Ameen Kharadi, the Vice Chairman of the College presented the vote of thanks.
