Dera Ghazi Khan: Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Ahmad Khan Buzdar was the chief guest at the First Convocation of Ghazi Khan Medical College, Dera Ghazi Khan held on April 27, 2019. Also present on this occasion were Federal Minister of State Zartaj Gul Wazir, Provincial Health Minister, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Advisor to Chief Minister for Health, Muhammad Hanif Pitafi, Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department, Mr. Saqib Zafar and Vice Chancellor University of Health Sciences Lahore, Prof. Javed Akram.

Buzdar at the first Convocation of D.G. Khan Medical College held recently.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif Qureshi, the Principal of the college in his welcome address first gave brief history of the college. He then highlighted the deficiencies and problems faced by the college which include shortage of faculty members which is essential to provide best medical education and training. He also asked the government to build an auditorium, Girls Hostel, Hostel for Nurses and Lady Doctors besides provide a Bus for transportation of students.

Speaking at the occasion Chief Minister Sardar Usman Ahmad Khan Buzdar announced that all the demands of the college are genuine which will be approved besides providing much more facilities in the days to come. He announced that new wards will be constructed in the teaching hospital. A new cardiology hospital will be established in Dera Ghazi Khan. Hundreds of other developmental projects will be completed in this city in near future.

The Chief Minister later presented medals and certificates among the best graduates of the college. Mr. Zain ul Abideen was declared the best graduate of his class as well as the college so far. He was awarded twenty two medals out of which nineteen were gold medals. Miss Sahiba Dost was declared the best graduate of her class and was awarded fifteen medals out of which eleven were gold medals. Miss Madiha Nazar was declared the best graduate of her class and was awarded nineteen medals out of which nine were gold medals. Other distinguished students were also awarded certificates and medals. The Chief Minister distributed shields to the guests of honour. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif Qureshi, the Principal, presented shield to the Chief Minister.

Prof. Dr. Yasmin Rashid, the Provincial Health Minister, in her speech, pointed out that health and education are the priority areas of this government and Ghazi Khan Medical College is being provided maximum funds and many new schemes will be implemented here. The meeting was also addressed by Prof. Javed Akram Vice Chancellor of University of Health Sciences. The meeting was conducted by Prof. Tehseen Iqbal, Secretary of the convocation.
