AFMDC organizes
seminar on Hepatitis

FAISALABAD: Department of Medical Education organized a seminar on World Hepatitis Day on 28th July 2016 at Aziz Fatimah Medical & Dental College Faisalabad. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Habib Subhani Head of the Dept. of Medicine, talked about various types of hepatitis besides mentioning their symptoms as well as its treatment. Dr Saira Javed classified the testing strategies for hepatitis and how it can be diagnosed. She specially laid emphasis on common serologic patterns in Hepatitis B virus infection and their interpretation. Dr Saleem Adil discussed the modes of transmission of hepatitis and its prevention at primary, secondary and tertiary care level.

Prof. Amir Hussain the guest speaker in his speech pointed out that hepatitis was a major public health challenge. He also presented the prevalence statistics of Hepatitis in Pakistan in general and in Faisalabad in particular. He also elaborated on the natural history of viral hepatitis.
The presentations by various speakers were followed by lively interactive discussion. Principal of AFMDC, Prof. Qaiser Mehmood in his speech appreciated the efforts by the organizers and also presented the college souvenir to the guest speaker.

Earlier in his welcome address Prof. Qaddus Ur Rehman pointed out that viral hepatitis was the 7th leading cause of death globally which is more than deaths from Tuberculosis and Malaria. The seminar conclude with an awareness walk about Hepatitis in which faculty members and students participated. (PR)
