Emergency Medicine Conference at KEMU

Lahore: The Accident and Emergency Department of Mayo Hospital organized first International Emergency Medicine Conference under the patronage of King Edward Medical University, Lahore. Emergency Medicine has been established as an independent specialty couple of decades ago. Consultants working in this Department provide lifesaving treatment and resuscitation to critically ill patients during the Golden Hour.

KEMU is the first public sector Medical University to launch Emergency Medicine Program in Pakistan. Senior consultants have been recruited for this purpose who are providing 24/7 healthcare service in Accident and Emergency Department, Mayo Hospital, Lahore. These consultants supervise treatment of over three thousand patients per day. The meeting was very well attended by international experts in Emergency Medicine from USA, UK, South Africa and Gulf countries who shared their knowledge and experience with the junior doctors and paramedics.

Minister for Health Punjab Prof. Dr. Yasmin Rashid was the chief guest on this occasion. She congratulated the staff of KEMU for organizing this Conference and appreciated the efforts of Prof. Dr. Yar Muhammad (Chairman Department of Accident & Emergency).She further added that Government of Punjab is committed to provide free medicine and health care to needy patients. She also urged junior doctors to improve their communication skills, not only with patients but also with their attendants. She added that this Conference will help Pakistani doctors to learn from the international faculty.

Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal said that this Conference shall not only help the doctors to improve patients care but will also provide trained human resource for national and international healthcare institutions.

The Conference was attended by Dr. Narges Daliri, Dr. Taimur Butt, Dr. Juniad Asghar, Dr. Farooq Zurba, Dr. Talat Al Kindy, Dr. Sami Al Kindy Ex Principal KEMC Prof. Khwaja Saadiq Husain, Prof. Mehmood Ali Malik, Ex Professor of Pathology Prof. Akhter Sohail Chughtai, Prof. Asghar Naqi, Prof. Irshad Hussain Qureshi, Prof. Abrar Ashraf Ali, Prof. Yar Muhammad and Prof. Sajid Abaidullah. The Deans, HODs and a large number of under graduate and postgraduate doctors were also present on this occasion. (PR)
