AKU Pharmacy Dept. has trained
500 hospital pharmacists since 1988
KARACHI: The Department of Pharmacy at Aga Khan University Hospital started on the job hospital pharmacists training programe in 1988 and since then has trained about five hundred hospital pharmacists in this facility. This was stated by Mr. A. Latif Sheikh Director of Pharmacy Services at AKUH while speaking at the World Pharmacists Day meeting held at AKUH on September 27th 2014.
He further stated that at present 98% of their pharmacist’s work force comprise of in house trained pharmacists and all their managers are alumni of this in house training programme. In addition Pharmacy services have been in forefront in carrying out pharmacy practice research and presenting papers at national and international conferences many of which received awards, he added.
PPS Presidents attends WPA
congress in MADRID, SPAIN
RAWALPINDI: Prof. Mazhar Malik, Professor of Psychiatry/HOD Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences, Rawal Institute of Health Sciences ,Islamabad, attended the World Congress of Psychiatry of World Psychiatric Association (WPA),held in Madrid Spain, from September 14-18,2014. In his capacity as President Pakistan Psychiatric Society (PPS) , he also represented Pakistan and attended the General Assembly 2014 of World Psychiatric Association.
The General Assembly 2014 of World Psychiatric Association (WPA) was attended by the representatives of around 200 countries around the globe. It was held on 17th morning and discussed 2014- 2017 objectives of the WPA and the Work Plan of the WPA was also discussed and high lighted following areas of importance.
During the same session election proceedings were held for the various posts of WPA office and the following were elected:
President-Elect: Prof. Helen. Herrman, Australia.
Secretary General: Prof. Roy A. Kallivayalil, India.
Secretary for Finances: A. Soghoyan,South Africa.
Secretary for Scientific Meetings: M. Takeda, Japan and Zone Representative - Zone 15 (Central and Western Asia): Prof Khalid.A. Mufti, Pakistan.
International Urticaria Day
on October 1st, 2014
First-ever International Urticaria Day is being observed on October 1st, 2014. It was inspired by UNEV (the Urticaria Network e.V.) and the DAAB e.V., two organizations located in Germany and dedicated to improving conditions for patients with urticaria and allergies. The main purpose of International Urticaria Day is to raise awareness of this debilitating disease. Educational events for healthcare professionals, patients, media and the general public will be taking place in Germany and worldwide.
