PMA, Civil Society
condemn raid on NICVD

KARACHI: Pakistan Medical Association and representatives of the Civil Society have condemned the raid on National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) Karachi by National Accountability Bureau. This tertiary care cardiac facility they pointed out was providing unique round the clock services of angiography, angioplasty including primary angioplasty and treatment for other cardiac ailments to the common man round the clock which has earned it a great name the world over. Such attempts are meant to tarnish the image of this facility.

NICVD has emerged as one of the best public hospital in the country providing services to the people which no other cardiac hospital in Pakistan is providing. NICVD under the leadership of the present Executive Director and his team who are all devoted and committed to serve the ailing humanity have set a unique example of service which must be appreciated. Apart from NICVBD main campus, it has in all twenty eight facilities in the country. It gets funds from the Government of Sindh but being an autonomous body it is governed by a Governing Body. No formal corruption charges have ever been proved hence such raids will tarnish the image of this institution. They termed the NAB raid illegal, immoral, illogical and disregard of basic principles and values. Federal Government wishes to take over this hospital which is unconstitutional, unacceptable and against the spirit of provincial autonomy as provided through the 18th Amendment, they remarked. The speakers at the press conference included Prof. Tipu Sultan from PMA, Mr. Karamat Ali from PILER and Habib Uddin Junaid from Peoples Labour Bureau, Fahim Siddiqui from Karachi Union of Journalists, Bushra Arian representing Lady Health Workers Federation and Naghma Iqtedar also spoke on this occasion.
