Fountain House Sargodha to
start functioning shortly

SARGODHA: Fountain House Lahore a state of the art rehabilitation center for those suffering from various mental disorders has been doing a commendable job for the last many years. Founded by Prof.M. Rashid Chaudhry an eminent mental healthcare professional of Pakistan in 1971, this institution later expanded its services to Farooqabad where Agro therapy facilities were made available for the members who come from the rural back ground.  People suffering from various mental disorders enrolled at Fountain House, it may be recalled are called as Members and not Patients.  After the death of Prof. Rashid Chaudhry, Prof.M.Haroon Rashid Chaudhry started looking after this project and added numerous new facilities and services.

After his death, Dr. Amjad Saqib took over as Chairman of the Management Committee and conceived the idea of setting up a similar Fountain House at Sargodha. This dream has now been realized with the help and assistance of philanthropists. Government of Punjab provided an eight acre land for this project and the construction started which has now almost been completed. It is now likely to start functioning soon providing Out Patients as well Indoor facilities to those suffering from various mental disorders. A Free OPD Satellite clinic has already started since February 1, 2015. It is expected that about a thousand patients will be offered treatment facilities every month.  Fountain House, it may be mentioned here is a project run and managed by Lahore Mental Health Association.

BSMMU honours seven
senior doctors with PhD

DHAKA (BANGLADESH): Seven eminent physician of Bangladesh were offered honorary Ph.D degrees by the Bangabandhu Seikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) at its second convocation held on March 1st 2015.

Those honoured include Prof. M.A. Kashem, in Anatomy. Prof. Rabiul Husain in Ophthalmology, Prof. T.A. Chowdhury in Obstetrics and Gynaecology , Prof. Rashid Uddin in Neurosurgery and Prof. Nurul Alam in Medicine .

The honor has been conferred on them for the extraordinary contribution in the development of their respective specialty. Prof. Amin was honoured for his contributions to promote the discipline of ENT in Bangladesh and for the establishment of National Center for Hearing and Speech, Specialized ENT Hospital, Integrated Pre School for the Hearing Impaired Children of SAHIC at Mohakhali, Dhaka and a sub-center at Pahartali, Chittagong.

 Dr. Afzal Javed chosen as
President-elect of AFPA

Dr. Afzal Javed an eminent Pakistani Psychiatrist has been elected unanimously as President Elect of Asian Federation of Psychiatric Associations (AFPA). This meeting was attended by Presidents of 25 Asian countries national societies (first ever in history of Asian Psychiatry).
