Farewell Reception for
Prof. Jahan Ara Pal by AKU

KARACHI: Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and faculty members of Aga Khan University organized a farewell dinner reception to recognize the services and honour Prof. Mrs. Jahan Ara Pal recently. Speakers paid rich tributes and commended her services to establish the Department of Obstetrics and Gynae on scientific lines and improving the quality of patient care.
Dr. Jahan Ara Pal, it may be mentioned here had a distinguished professional career in Pakistan Navy. She was Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologists at PNS Shifa for many years. Later on she moved to Rawalpindi and was appointed as Prof. of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Armed Forces Medical College and Army Medical College where she served for many years. Later she was honoured by appointing her as Professor Emeritus at Army Medical College.
After retirement from army, she joined Aga Khan University Hospital where she also served as Chairperson of the department. She took keen interest in improving the department, upgrading and expanding the services available. She believed that it should not be just another maternity home but should provide specialized services as well which are expected of from a tertiary care university hospital. She developed a team and ensured co-operation and coordination among all those working in the department which is essential to improve service and patient care. She trained many obstetricians and Gynecologists. Her efforts to improve services might have saved many lives.
Speaking at the dinner reception Dr. Rahat Qureshi commended her services and thanked her for all which she did for the staff, patients and the professional colleagues. Dr. Farhat Abbas said that she is most welcome to the AKU Hospital whenever she wishes. The reception was very well attended by obstetricians and gynecologists from various city hospitals besides faculty members from Aga Khan University Hospital.



Rheumatology Conference
at Lahore
from October 12-14th 2012

LAHORE: Pakistan Society for Rheumatology (PSR) is holding its 16th Annual Conference from 12th to 14th October, 2012 at a local hotel in Lahore. This academic activity is being organized by the Division of Rheumatology, FMH College of Medicine and Dentistry. Theme of the conference is “Move to Improve: Every Day Counts in Rheumatic Disease”.
According to the organizers the conference has attracted a number of distinguished speakers from overseas as well as from all over the country. This will provide an excellent educational opportunity for teaching faculty, consultants, family physicians and post graduate students to learn the latest advances in diagnosis and state of the art management of patients with Rheumatic diseases.
