Mehwash Kashif is First recipient of
Maqbool Jafary training scholarship

KARACHI: Dr. Mehwash Kashif Assistant Editor of Annals of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital/Karachi Medical and Dental College became the first recipient of Dr. Maqbool H. Jafary Training Scholarship. This scholarship has been started by Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences in the name of its Founder Chief Editor late Dr. Maqbool H. Jafary for the training of young editors in the art and science of Medical Journalism and Scientific Publishing.

She successfully completed the week long course last month. The subjects and topics which were covered in the course were as under:

  1. General Briefing, Scope and contents of the journal.
  2. Editor’s Triage. Introduction to E Journal System, initial screening and internal review.
  3. Plagiarism Check, DOI Generation, interpretation of similarity index score.
  4. Copy Editing of the manuscripts.
  5. Corrections, publication ahead of print and page make-up.
  6. Setting up Peer Review system and Reviewers Data Base.
  7. Publication process, coordination with other team members.

At the end of the training course, she was also given a Scholarship of Rs. 25,000/-(Rupees Twenty Five thousand only).  Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences plans to offer this scholarship to one candidate each year who will be selected from amongst those who apply through their establishment and recommended by the Chief Editor of the Journal. Only those candidates who have done MBBS or BDS and are already affiliated and working with any medical and dental journal are eligible, if from outside Karachi will have to arrange their own boarding and lodging.


Over 500 doctors get Degrees
at CPSP Convocation

LAHORE: College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan held its 50th Convocation in which 468 doctors were awarded Fellowship and 98 were awarded Membership degrees. Air Chief Marshal Shuail Aman was the Chief Guest at the occasion.

Addressing the Participants Air Chief Marshal Shuail Aman congratulated the newly elected fellows and members and hope that they will play their pivotal role in providing medical services to the ailing humanity across the country. He also appreciated the role of CPSP in imparting quality training to the specialists. He hoped that the new fellows and members will

utilize their knowledge and expertise for rendering better medical facilities to the masses. Pakistan Air Force has also established Fazaia Medical College in Islamabad which is proving helpful in social and economic progress.

Speakers highlight safety and
efficacy of Folic Acid

KARACHI: Folic Acid is a part of B Complex Vitamin. It is being used in different indications specifically in pregnant women to avoid Neural Tube Defects & other defects in new born. Ad folic is the most Advanced and Active form of folic acid and it belongs to 4th generation of folic acid which has the highest solubility and bio-availability.

Prof. Shereen Bhutta and Prof. Dr. Haleema Yasmeen have conducted First Ever Trial on Mean RBC Folate in pregnant and non-pregnant women with Folic Acid & Adfolic (Quatefolic) and the study concluded significant increase in Mean RBC Folate over 24 weeks in Quatrefolic Arm.

To highlight the findings of this study, PharmEvo organized eight educational programs under the banner of “Why Quatrefolic” in different areas of Pakistan where leading gynecologist gave lectures on Role of Folate in obstetrics and gynecology and presented findings of the  trail on Mean RBC Folate. The presentations were followed by lively discussion.
