NUMS AS&RB lay emphasis on
Education through Digital Technology

RAWALPINDI: The 10th AS&RB Meeting of National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), Rawalpindi was held on 24th April 2020 chaired by Pro Vice Chancellor, Maj Gen Professor Muhammad Aslam. Also present in the meeting were newly appointed Principal AM College, Maj Gen Sayed Nusrat Raza, Deputy Comdt AFPGMI, Controller of Examinations, Dir Research, Professor of Clinical Trial, Dean Basic Dental Sciences, Dir Quality Assurance, Dir Academics, Dir Academics (Clinical) and Head of Departments of Medicine, Physiology, Biological Sciences, Social Sciences, besides Registrar Professor Junaid Sarfraz Khan.

The chair apprised the house about the message of Chairman HEC Dr. Tariq Banuri on importance of Online Education in the face of SARS-COVID-2-19 pandemic. He emphasized that teachers and students may forget reading habits if we don’t opt for digital learning in this hour of crisis. For this mode of education Students Readiness, Faculty Readiness, Library Readiness, Institute Readiness and formulation of Digital Academic Council at Institutional/ University level to structurise and monitor the online educational activity is essential. However, the Evaluation Strategies through online assessment for Medical & Dentistry education is a challenge for which the institutions may formulate assuring the quality.

Various agenda points such as Postgraduate Academic Policy, Faculty and Students Handbook for Postgraduate Studies were discussed and approved. An innovation was to launch a 6-month Certification Course on “Palliative Care” at NUMS with collaboration of subject expert from England from September/ October 2020, when the pandemic, hopefully, is over. Fateha was also offered for late Maj. Gen. Dr. Tahir Iqbal, an eminent Cardiologist, AFIC, who died due to cardiac arrest. The Vice Chancellor NUMS, Lt Gen Professor Syed Muhammad Imran Majeed stressed that academic and research activities of NUMS should not hamper due to COVID-19 and we must move forward to fulfill mission of the University.(PR)
