World Oral Health Day
Seminar at BMU

KARACHI: Baqai Dental College, Community Dentistry Department organized “World Oral Health Day” seminar and on 20 March to 27 March 2019 at various places. Dr. Inayatullah Padhiar a well-known dental surgeon was the chief guest on this occasion. Addressing the participants he said that the only reason behind his success was that one should always work with sincerity and keep working on right track. His advice to the students of dentistry was to serve your nation and save your country.

Chancellor, Baqai Medical University, Prof. Dr. Zahida Baqai inaugurated awareness walk. She stated that mouth was the gateway of entire body, it is necessary to keep maintain the oral health because every disease start from mouth, brush your teeth and save your life.

Earlier Head of Community Dentistry, Prof. Dr. Asghar Ali Shigri welcomed all the guests and presented performance of his department. Community Dentistry, he stated has arranged “World Oral Health Day” awareness program with a mission to eliminate oral diseases and create awareness about the preventions of oral health diseases. He appreciated the services of Dr. Inayatullah Padhiar who has played a vital role in the field of community dentistry. Dr. Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi, Vice Principal, Bahria Medical University, highlighted the statement that “20” teethes are considered the sign of healthy mouth. While March is the 3rd month of the year and in this awareness campaign we are focusing on “3” age groups: children, youngster and old age persons. Last year the theme of World Oral Health Day was “Think Mouth” and now in 2019 the theme is “Act on Mouth Health”. She elaborated that the journey of oral health or mouth is now at the stage of action, here we have to deliver message and motivate people to take care of their oral health because it is in connection with general health. WHO’s goals are to build healthy populations. Sugar and smoking are the main cause of oral diseases. We should spread awareness about the prevention, eating less sugar and avoid tobacco in any form. Prof. Lubna Baig Pro VC Jinnah Sindh Medical University, appreciated Baqai Medical University efforts and said that, it is our responsibility to transfer these activities in our youngsters to keep alive this efforts. Principal, Baqai Dental College, Prof. Kashif Ikram in his take home message said that Oral Health is mandatory “Brush your teeth and save your life”. (PR)


NUMS Launches Certificate 
in Health Professions 
Education Program

RAWALPINDI: National University of Medical Science (NUMS), Rawalpindi, has started Certificate in Health Professions Education (CHPE) - Six-Month Program from the platform of NUMS Department of Health Professions Education (NDHPE), CHPE addresses the basic and applied concepts of Medical Education to the Pakistani Health Sciences Teachers in advancing their skills to perform the basic functions of a teacher in health sciences institutes.

The offered course is hybrid with a face to face component (FtF) and online self-study. There will be two face to face sessions, one at the beginning and one at the end of the 06 months. Total of 136 participants and 20 faculty members have logged-in to the NUMS Distance Learning portal, for self-study & discussions in their Distance Learning study groups, for the ongoing Adult Learning-Theory and Application (ALTA) course. The six, geographically diverse, Distance Learning Study Groups (DLSGs) are being facilitated, by 18 qualified faculty members from NUMS, its constituent, and affiliated institutes.

The first face-to-face session of Multan participants has successfully concluded five intense days of hands on activities, conducted by Program Directors Dr. Ayesha Rauf and Dr. Rukhsana Ayub. These were very well received by 24 participants from Multan and Bahawalpur which will be followed by other groups. NUMS faculty will now be conducting the scheduled face-to-face sessions at Rawalpindi, Lahore and Quetta.(PR)
