Dr. Abdul Malik elected
Central President PIMA

PESHAWAR: Dr. Abdul Malik, Cardiac Surgeon from Peshawar was elected as central President of PIMA for the session 2016-18. The election took place on the occasion of PIMA’s 24th central biennial convention held at Peshawar Medical College on 2-3 April 2016.

Dr. Abdul Malik graduated from Khyber Medical College (KMC) in 1994, completed his residency at NICVD Karachi and cleared FCPS in Cardiac Surgery in 2002. Currently he is Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery at Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. He joined PIMA in 1994 and has been past President PIMA KPK in 2011-13.

He is determined to focus on strengthening ethical and moral values in doctors which have seen a steady decline over the years. He believes that this can be achieved by reverting to the message of Allah and His messenger Muhammad PBUH. He is of the view that doctors should keep themselves abreast with developments in Medicine and one of the main tasks of PIMA would be to continue regular CME activities in all of its units to improve their knowledge and skills.


Prof. Khubaib Shahid

Prof. Khubaib Shahid, Professor of Radiology at Fatima Memorial Hospital Lahore, was appointed by the Central Executive Council as General Secretary of PIMA center for 2016-18.

In the first regular meeting of the CEC, held at Rawalpindi on 30th April-1st May 2016, in charges of various departments of CEC were also appointed. Main departments being Da’wah o tarbiyah (Dr Abdul Aziz Zia), CME (Prof. Hafiz Ejaz), Medical Relief (Prof. Afzal Miyan), International Relief (Prof. Iqbal Khan), Prevention of Blindness (Prof.Intzar Butt) and Finance (Dr. Muhammad Ashraf) (PR)


 DUHS introduces Integrated
Modular Curriculum for MBBS

KARACHI: Dow University of Health Sciences has revised the MBBS curriculum and launched a Five Year Integrated Modular Curriculum of MBBS Program. It has been prepared by the whole medical faculty of Dow University of Health Sciences. This was stated by Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) and Prof. Junaid Ashraf, Principal, Dow Medical College (DMC) at a Press Briefing held at Dow Medical College on May 9th2016.

This curriculum committee included the following faculty members:

The curriculum is integrated horizontally as well as vertically. Instead of subject like Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology, the students study on the format of modules each module relating to a specific system for example Respiratory system, Nerves System etc.

Furthermore every module is studied in different spirals for example CVS1- CVS-2 each module consists of different systems of human for example Respiratory system, Renal System. In this way it becomes easy for a medical student to study every system in each domain i.e. Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, pathology & Pharmacology simultaneously. (PR)
