Pediatric neurology group
of Pakistan formed

KARACHI: The first and inaugural meeting of the pediatric neurology group of Pakitan was held on 25th May 2013 at Karachi. The theme of the conference was local guidelines for the treatment of Epilepsy in Children.

Senior and Junior Child Neurologists of Pakistan were present on the occasion. The presence of Qualified Child Neurologists has always has been felt in this country of 180 million. In the absence of qualified and trained child neurologists, mal treatment of childhood onset brain disorders specially epilepsy had been the order of the day. Inappropriate use of drugs, lack of knowledge of drug interaction, proper drug use, use of precise drugs at specific ages and updated knowledge of newer and friendlier treatments has been lacking.
This meeting was also extremely fruitful because epileptic disorders in children that go unchecked cause mental retardation and mostly permanent brain damage.
