Karachi: Well-known Cricketer Younus Khan was special guest and Prof.Ahmad Ali Khan of Brain Trust UK was the chief guest at a Wellness promotion and Mental Health Camp organized by Prof. Iqbal Afridi at Karachi Zoo and Botanical Gardens recently. The event was also graced by Guest of honor Senator Kareem Khawaja, Chairman Sindh Mental Health Authority by his presence. This event was organized in reference to President of Pakistan’s mental health initiative for women and young people and also covering their wellness.

Prof. Iqbal Afridi in his address stated that nature is great contributor of good mental health. By taking mental health beyond the hospital premises and reach to social masses will reduce stigma of mental health. Mental health in public will benefit and reduce harm /suicide.

Younus Khan promoted the concept of exercise and play for good mental health in health professionals and public.  People of all walk of lives attended the medical camp at Zoo .Director Zoo, Qamar Ayub appreciated and agreed to support in future in all forms including donating some space for future health and mental health activities. Doctors of various specialties participated in camp which included Dr Bharam Khoso, Dermatologist, Dr. Zubair Khoso, Dr. Saima Ghous, Endocrinologist, Dr. Ajay Kumar Pediatric Psychiatrist. Others doctors who organize and participated included Dr. Ali, Dr Amna Asad, Dr. Fariha, Dr. Ali Rajper, Dr. Ali Imran, Mr. Zafar.

Prof. Afridi emphasized the importance of improving our thinking, emotions and behaviour and healthy lifestyle (sleep, diet, exercise and work). In addition to developing healthy communication in relationships will improve our productivity, satisfaction leading to socioeconomic development at all levels. About 300 plants were donated to the zoo by Prof. Afridi. This event is the first of series of events to be followed in different areas of KARACHI and other cities of the country. (PR)

1359 candidates
appear in Step-II Exam
conducted by NUMS 

RAWALPINDI: After the successful conduct of four NEB examination cycles during 2017, 2018 and 2019, the Step II of the second cycle for 2019 was held on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Pak China Friendship Centre Islamabad. The exam was conducted in two sessions i.e. Paper-1 and Paper-2 of 3-hour duration each with 150 and 100 MCQs for medical and dental graduates, respectively in each segment.

A total of 1359 candidates; 1355 medical and 04 dental graduates, appeared in the exam. A feedback proforma was given to each candidate to have their candid opinion for the improvement of the system. Pro-Vice Chancellor and Controller of Examinations NUMS monitored various professional and administrative arrangements through a number of committees overseeing specific tasks. The result was prepared through immaculate cross validation mechanism over the sophisticated equipment. Vice-Chancellor NUMS Lt Gen Professor Syed Muhammad Imran Majeed, HI(M) (Retd), Pro-Vice Chancellor NUMS Maj Gen Professor Muhammad Aslam, HI (M)(Retd) and officials of Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) visited the examination venue who were briefed by Controller of Examinations NUMS Brig Muhammad Saifullah Butt (Retd) on the examination arrangements.(PR)
